Some talk around the #ARRL outage starting around roughly 26:00. One of the panelists is a data security expert and seems to agree with the current ARRL approach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHZxW6ebj1s
@kilroy_was_here It's unfortunate that the ARRL has chosen the old school non-transparent route thought. And the whole, "Well, the info we were supposed to protect is already publicly available elsewhere" messaging is pretty out of touch.
I'm seeing an uptick in idiots driving around with LED light bars mounted to their front bumpers (and turned on). I wonder what causes the desire to do this? Not enough oxygen while sleeping?
@seachanger Some small biz (near me at least) are charging the customer an extra line item for the card processing overhead, taking Venmo and other less expensive payment methods, or offering better prices for cash. In my area I've seen some restaurants, auto repair shops, and a few other random shops doing this.
I'm all for cutting out middle men that don't add lots of value.
Privacy tip: When you sell or trade-in a vehicle, remember to erase all of your data from the in-car electronics. The car dealerships will NOT do this, although they should be required to.
This wasn’t done for the last few vehicles I’ve purchased. I know one previous owners name, where she lives, what her taste in music is, where her dad lives (and how often she visited him), and what restaurants she often went to. In the wrong hands, this is dangerous as hell.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but… I think that #HamRadio stopped being a service many years ago. Enjoy the hobby and do what you can to get others interested.
I think the videos where someone sticks a GoPro to themselves then goes through a normal day at work are enormously beneficial to society in multiple ways.
I'm thinking of doing some winter e-bike riding here in New England. I believe I've got the clothing plan figured out. Any other recommendations? #bikeride
@w7voa That quote stands out as something only a level-headed educated President who supports working-class Americans would say. I'm so F-ing glad the previous guy is gone and never coming back.
@inquiline Hmm. Seems implied to me that there is supposed to be a string hanging down from that stick where a carrot is attached, dangling in front of the donkey.
@universalhub I can get the VIN, name of insurance co., description of car for pretty much anyone in MA from CreditKarma.com. I reported it to them last year. They didn't care.
It's so strange that people will tell you you're weak for not being able to put up with bad behavior rather than strong for not being willing to put up with bad behavior.
@TheUSASingers@freemo Yes, we are entitled to our own opinions. I have this awful tendency to call out things that aren't factual. Going back into the weeds now.
Interested in the ongoing discussion on these sort of things. My local ham club was talking about how they are trying to grow membership of the club by focusing on the prepper community.
I am wondering if a better strategy may be focusing on getting outdoorsy people interested radio via SOTA and POTA, given the explosion of interest in those since 2020 and how they seem to have attracted new hams like me into the hobby? Seems like there is aesthetic overlap with the geocacher community.
@Geojoek A few years ago I heard someone say that POTA could save #HamRadio and I though that was quite a stretch. I’m now onboard with that statement.
It just dawned on me that I think all of the terrible white trash (American, racist, homophobic, and/or asshole) humans I’ve heard or interacted with on air have been in the extra portion of the HF #HamRadio bands. How about you?
@k8ket What's interesting about 7200 is that people will call out the bullshit on air, which is OK I guess. But then it turns into a mess. It's ultimately a place people go for attention they aren't getting from the friends they no longer have or the family that doesn't talk to them anymore. This crap on the extra portion seems to be organized assemblies of terrible humans that are trying to carry on their idiocy to the next generation. It's weird.
