Something i'm pondering today: are there any popular or mainstream-ish TV shows or hollywood movies depicting a t4t couple? Are there any that even show a queer romance between a trans person and a cis person? Are there any that show trans women as capable of being dated and loved in long-term relationships as themselves?

I'll admit, I am unaware of a single t4t couple in mainstream entertainment media (maybe there's like a single episode sidestory somewhere?). That might have more to do with me not watching that many new shows and movies though, not sure.

In terms of trans characters being dated and loved as themselves, i think all of those are in queer-centered media like the L Word, Pose, and Transparent, i'm guessing? (Also haven't watched those shows because i'm a bad queer 😅) but a mainstream show? Definitely can't name one, especially where a transfem or trans woman is seen as having a long-term relationship as herself.

mallory,

@JoscelynTransient t4c couples: Couples Therapy s01, Sense8, Are You the One s08, Boy Meets Girl (2014).

Dyke Hard (2014) is definitely not mainstream but there’s t4c & t4t love in it.

mallory,

@JoscelynTransient More t4c relationships: Glamorous, The Umbrella Academy, Princess Jellyfish (yes I'm claiming this one for the dolls), and Coronation Street (1998-2014 - Hayley Cropper, played by a cis woman unfortunately - but you can't get much more mainstream than one of the most watched TV shows in the country).

Feedback?

mallory,

@drewdevault "when we’re done with Hare 1.0, the language syntax and semantics will freeze and it can be depended upon indefinitely." - This makes me wonder: will there be any guarantees made about the stdlib?

So, Uhhh...

Abigail Thorn sure does have a hoodie on in her preview for the next PT. It's, um... got an image.

Either this is an esoteric reference to a sci fi thing I've missed, or it's a pretty clear reference to a kink thing that's hard to miss.

And if so, good for her for living out loud!

mallory,

@Impossible_PhD Did you notice the person wearing the droneification mask in HBomberguy’s latest video?

Many companies and governments collect gender information and store it as a boolean in a database. Some argue that non-binary should be an option too. Some argue that gender should not be collected at all. Both of these approaches require significant modifications to COBOL programs written 50+ years ago.

I have an innovative solution that requires minimal changes: we stick with a boolean field but rename the genders to “none of your business” and “none of your fucking business”.

Made a little #uxn tal assembler in Rust: https://github.com/MalloryA/uxn-rust It's a lot more code than @neauoire 's uxnasm, but it does tell you in which file and on which line the error occurred.

It correctly parses all .tal files in the upstream uxn repo. Doesn't handle lambdas yet. And shout out to @nettles for her cheat sheet which I referred to many times.

Can we just like, build a new protocol for an alternative web? Maybe something that's way easier/more accessible to create sites for? Cause it's starting to look like http is an evolutionary dead end since it got taken over by megacorps

mallory,

@eniko @irenes @aeva I’d like to see a protocol that encourages caching servers so that information can be accessed offline. But I’d like the protocol to keep the guarantees that come with HTTPS like knowing that the content has not been tampered with and knowing that intermediaries cannot see what the user is looking at. I heard of Project Gemini (https://gemini.circumlunar.space/) recently but it only addresses the first of my concerns.

Term limits for billionaires. You can become one but after 10 years we take all your money

mallory,

@eniko I would simply buy the entire country and return it to serfdom 💅. Good luck taking my money while you’re all toiling in my fields day and night to win the coveted “the children of your village get vaccinated against polio” award 😘

do you still have to go to theaters to see movies when they come out or can you just buy the dvd right away these days

mallory,

@aeva These days pretty much every movie has a multiple-months-long delay becoming available to watch at home. It really sucks for those of us who don’t act like the COVID pandemic is over.

Setting up a new site. It needs a syndication feed.
I can only be bothered to generate one.
    Should it be...

    mallory,

@Edent Atom is supported by everything that supports “RSS” and if you need to understand how it’s meant to work, there’s an RFC. “RSS” is actually 13 different formats in a trench coat, with varying degrees of documentation.

    mallory,

@tomw Atom only “lost” in the sense that people are more familiar with the term “RSS” (you can safely assume that 99% of the time you hear “RSS”, the person means “feed”). It’s not like you’ll find a feed reader that doesn’t support Atom.

    mallory,

@tomw “support RSS”? Which version? Does every feed reader support every version? Do they support them all fully? Are there any ambiguities in any of the specs?

The gain for the feed author with Atom is that there’s a robust spec that’s gone through the RFC process. And there’s one version of it. So there’s absolutely no confusion.

    mallory,

@tomw Yeah we are about 15 years late on this topic! We may as well be discussing the ending of Avatar the Last Air Bender.
