Being very used to my Mastodon feed now makes it very evident how ad-heavy other platforms are.

It’s refreshing to only see posts that I made a conscious effort to see. And it’s bonkers that it’s a rare concept.

@kylewritescode there’s a TV show for this now? On which platform?

@kylewritescode thanks! I liked the movie back in the 2000s. Will check this one out

🤯 insane numbers on the macOS release post. Thanks for all the support! An hotfix for the login issue is coming but Apple have troubles… login.

@IceCubesApp how to I get the macOS app? when I redownload from the store it still appears to be the old one.

Is there a way of verifying it? It doesn’t appear different and I don’t see Timeline in the top bar like one of your screenshots indicate

@RickiTarr I loved this passage from the current book I’m reading.

“There’s power in stories. There’s magic in them. And each person’s life is a story itself, and with that, every person carries magic within them.”

    @psychicparrot42 do you think there has been some major shift since your last published game?

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @psychicparrot42 yeah, I see how that’s not comparable. That’s rough with the latest sales though. I hope you can still stick around and work on a new project!

    Do you think it’s worth spending any time trying to market it more? Or is the reception so cold that you would prefer to move onto the next project immediately?
    I’m sure you must be tired from shipping and might not even want to think about next steps

    leroy,

    @psychicparrot42 I definitely understand that feeling!

    Inspiring relentless, I hope the game sees second life on console!

    Appreciate the candidness with sharing the data.

    Interesting to find that I’m staring to block and mute more. Still very rare here. Less so on Bluesky. Now quite common on Threads. And both of those despite me having a fraction of the follower count.

    Fortunately, not too much is down to direct comms. But whereas here I’m often keen to explore conversations, Threads in particular has already hit “don’t open the replies” in many cases, mirroring Musk’s incarnation of Twitter. I’m surprised (and a little disappointed) that happened so quickly.

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @craiggrannell do you know which platforms provide the greatest percentage of click-through rate for your articles?

    Assuming that’s one of the reasons you use them all.

    Have you also noticed if that percentage decreases as the follower count increases?

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @craiggrannell ah I see!

    That’s interesting that Facebook is still such a big referrer.

    Thanks for the insight!

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @craiggrannell yeah, I only used Facebook as a messenger platform from about 2012 and then even abandoned that around 2018.

    But I still get emails about so-so making a new post or see my partner’s feed where her friends still post about every day things.

    I know it’s used, but because it’s used SO MUCH more than I ever did, it’s really mind boggling.

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @craiggrannell yeah, always the way with public companies and the requirement of increasing the stock value. It’s a lot of work to align that with customer value too.

    I did find the birthday reminders useful back in the day. But then I realised most of them were so superficial (for me). Now I add the date in my own calendar. To me, it makes it more meaningful

    @simeon@indiehackers.social avatar

    Over the weekend I realised that I've slightly over-engineered my app.

    I'm pondering whether to simplify it (and take the delay/progress hit), or leave it as is.

    Right now, you can tell the app on which weekdays to plan meals for you.

    It turns out that, surprise!, life is chaotic.

    Things happen, plans change and you decide to cook something else. Or nothing at all.

    Constraining meals to specific days doesn't match Reality™.

    I could nuke this feature… 1/2

    #BuildInPublic

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @simeon it’s hard to know without knowing more about your app. But I some thoughts around either allowing both or “pausing”.

    I’ll think about it some more and try to put my thoughts together once I’m near my laptop

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @simeon @nickgracilla personally I like a clear action for each step.

    But rather than selecting days to cool, it could be the number of dishes to cook.

    I also like the idea of selecting days, as that allows you to remind the user “your recipe for today is ready” or what not.

    However, I agree that being able to “pause” or “delay” due to life being available. For example, there is a lot of frustration in the exercise app space where you often can’t pause your streak due to illness.

    I wish more devs would link to their websites from their apps. Sometimes I’ll have an app installed for months before I write about it, and it’ll have a name that makes searching for it a major pain in the arse (or a name on the Home Screen that doesn’t align with the App Store name). A link… would be so much easier.

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @craiggrannell one reason I don’t have that is because Apple don’t encourage it. Especially in apps advertised to children, it specifically goes against their Made for Children policy.

    However, they promote loads of apps for kids which breach that policy, so… 🤷‍♂️

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @craiggrannell yeah, I understand it’s pretty shit.

    Did anyone made an iOS game in ? I'm curious to see them! I dream about making a sort of loot based RPG (not graphic intensive but text / icons based). Also I'm not saying is the good or right choice to make a game (it's not), just curious.

    Started work on a place detail view that shows stuff like a log of all attempts to claim a place. Looks stupid if only one person is playing for a place, but it's basically a battle log with entries for each player.

    Every score that beat the previous high score is marked in green to indicate that the player was the owner for that point in time.

    Hahahahah. Holy shit.

    So Zoom is irrevocably turning their entire network into a training data set: https://hackers.town/@devlogic/110843380784157782

    EVERY "public service" company is now attempting to extract value. They're all going for it. They're gonna burn it all down to try and turn AI into a financial exit. Search engines, communication backbones, social networks, everybody.

    My read is they're all shit terrified of the impact AI will have and aren't long-term thinkers, so their only short term play is to burn it all down and exit ASAP. Never mind that what they're burning down is, uh, the entirety of our infrastructure. They don't care.

    leroy,
    @leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

    @glassbottommeg how is this going to work with all the proprietary data being shared?

    They’re going to have to hire someone to sift through this data, which will leak all sorts information!

    Or does this not apply to paid accounts?
