With great effort I've successfully been avoiding #WhatsApp so far, but this hard exploit has sadly come to an end and I must install it for a circuit training group I'm part of.

I've experienced the same delusion when I had to switch back to #android from #SailfishOs because of apps available only there. Or when I had to create #Facebook temporary accounts to join certain communities.

So annoyed by coercion exerted by society when it comes to products, sgrunt!

Be Frank with them that using WhatsApp is an outdated habit and basically backward in technology. Help them aware of other proper apps like telegram, signal, matrix etc

Paper Plane (formerly Telegrand) is a really nice #Telegram client. It still misses a lot of features of the official client, but if you're fine with that, it gives you really great native experience on #Linux. And it works great on phones, too!

You can find it in the beta channel on #Flathub.

    @realcaseyrollins @TwistedEagle @fuat2mb They allow people to have freedom of speech and avoid surveillance from govts etc. If u don't trust them, just use their secret chats. Coz They brought that for those who concern about privacy issues. And of course they are the best on the planet as a feature rich messager. Use telegram but wisely. That's all. No need to completely throw it away. It provides features for a lot of sectors from people to business & organisations

    @Wyndix @marc0x if u use telegram deep enough, u could easily replace a lot of apps with just telegram. The features are just so great, it increases ur productivity by increasing ur usage efficiency of the app. It's seriously the best on the planet now. It would be sad to see someone uninstall it without realising its potential. It's not just ur average texting app.

    It's Simple by default, powerful when needed.

    @Wyndix @marc0x I understand. But just realise that telegram is being used by people even in countries where it is banned to escape surveillance and to have a freedom of speech. Telegram stands for user privacy. It's probably the only proprietary tech on earth which people can trust. And the features are way helpful for many. And their update release cycle is 30 to 40 days approx. They innovate a lot of things and get better everyday for users to have a reliable and good experience.

    A new #Telegram account takeover campaign:

    It all starts with someone from your contacts book (another hacked account) messaging you and asking you to make a simple search from your Telegram account. This search includes a ‘Give_from‘ keyword in search, and then the hacker will ask you to send a screenshot of the search results.

    Essentially, any request from a friend asking to do a Telegram search for them, and a screenshot should immediately alert you:

    They will simultaneously send a Telegram login code to your device/number which then is a part of the chat screenshot that you share with the hacker. Once they receive the login code in the screenshot, the so-called favour is over as they can now login to your Telegram account and have access to all of your contacts. Obviously, others from your phonebook are now going to be targetted the same way.

    @kravietz Recently telegram hides the login on the search and login page and can only be seen after u touch the spoiler effect. This update is there for almost 2 weeks from now. Also telegram limits u to change important security things like logging out on other devices etc until 24 hours pass from ur login to the new device. Which helps us to identify immediately through the notification that some random person is logging in sus. (1/2)

    I suggest people to review their privacy & security settings and device lists to keep herself safe. And additionally I request people to have a strong 2FA in telegram settings to have a very safe and worry free experience

    @realcaseyrollins @hn50 what they said matters. Telegram giving data on court orders about illegal activists and never the legit user data. Throughout the history, telegram never compromised ordinary user's data. Freedom of speech differs from promoting violence etc. And in case, if u think e2ee is better look at all those chat leaks and hacks occurred in WhatsApp though being e2ee. Freedom is for people and for those misusing it privacy is a luxury that should be restricted.

    When I update Telegram's web client webk.telegram.org the app's tab goes blank. Now I get the same when updating the main client web.telegram.org. What gives?

    This has been occurring on chromeOS for the past several months. The issue was reported long ago but nothing happened:

    @amoroso Oh I get it. But still try once in incognito mode without any extention and a new browser too and if u still face the problem that could be from telegram web. Anyway all telegram clients are open source, so it'll be solved more quickly when u report it in GitHub I guess. Coz TDesktop (native app) reports are solved quickly when u report it in telegram group or in GitHub as far as I have observed.

    Anyway, I think chromeOS supports android apps . U could try installing the android app.

    @amoroso Wow. I like the blog👍. I got ur explanation and I agree that it is really nice to have cloud synced experience when moving across systems. I tried ChromiumOS when it first has been released but I found that to be less customizable. So I continued my journey to explore linux distros. Try linux too when u have time. Nowadays all kinds of user friendly linux exists.
    Btw, where u got the chrome OS? And what machine is that exactly?
    I wish to try out now, since u sparked my curiosity 😄.

    @amoroso If u can, please explain how webapps are better than native apps?

    As far as I know, webapps can be tunneled through the browser extensions, which works wonders in a lot of cases.
    Are there any other cases that benefits using webapps?

    I understand, still linux maintainance knowledge is needed if one gonna use it extensively. Once I tried installing drivers for my graphics card. Took me 2 days and several attempts to realize that it actually requires just 2 lines of command in terminal to solve it.😅 The learning takes time.

    And as for the chromeOS I googled and found that chromeOS flex and some alternatives exist for non-chromebook laptops. But they doesn't support playstore yet I guess. I'll try out those.😊

    @tbroyer Oh wow. I wish ooen source hardware and software companies unite to bring such manufacturing. Believe me the technology and usage of phone will skyrocket and still saving a lot from being e-waste. That will be the proper way to adopt tech advancement. Just like how raspberry pi and other SBCs revolutionized the way how a computer should exist. I wish to see full open source mobiles soon, which gives lifetime updates and get into a standard common architecture for a better world☺️.

    I always wanted and wished to see such technology revolutionising the current dominations industry. Imagine a device where u can replace anything specifically if damaged and because they have a common architecture they'll have lifetime updates, fully open source, true freedom. No bloatware , no monopoly of services. OMG just thinking about it gives me goodebumps. I'm not a dev or deep knowledged person, but I wish to contribute to open source and make such technology available.

    @tbroyer Such #software tech already exists, it's only about who wishes to continue and spend money to start such things which will make the world #better than being capitalistic profit minded. I just love to #innovate things. Wish I have the #knowledge and power to #implement it. Slowly learning the #process of it. Just surfing #mastodon let me these many exposure in just few weeks. I'm glad I adopted mastodon. If any of you willing to discuss about it, I'm open to such convos☺️
