A little physical therapy for my shoulder, followed by some Pick Up Stix for lunch... yum.

Reflecting on last night's @phpugly and so excited that we have hit 350 episodes. It feels like an accomplishment. I've learned a lot from my friends on the show, and our amazing community in Discord.

john,

@grmpyprogrammer @phpugly

Thank you, /dev/hell one of the OGs was definitely a huge influence for me back in the day.

You have the right persona for a great podcaster, but I do understand it's a grind sometimes.

Sooo.... automation is great, until it isn't.

I've been automating as much of the @phparch magazine release cycle as I can. And for the most part it's been great.

I just looked at the newsletter announcing it's availability and am quite embarrassed.

Uggggg....

john,

@ramsey @phparch

This time, yes. Data leaks at it's finest. At least I wasn't in the directory that I created that is the same as my private key. I do that so I can cd into it and then copy/paste the private key when I need it.

Thanks to @ian we've just contributed to phpc.social. Consider supporting them too — every little bit helps! https://opencollective.com/phpc-social

Question for @longhorn attendees: I'm presenting on a library I built recently. Would you rather I spend more time on how to use it, or how it works? Or something else?

It's a new talk so I can customize it easily. 🙂

john,

@Crell I am so confused, didn't you give us a VERY hard time just a few months ago when we were trying to get you to attend @tek? To the point of trying to make us look bad in public? Just so very confused... :(

@longhorn

john,

@Crell Just so I'm clear, what have they done that we haven't? https://tek23.phparch.com/health-protocols/

I'm not trying to be a jerk, really curious if we missed a step.

john,

@Crell I think you read into what was said.

I believe that was already posted at the time.

My comments in Discord were that we wouldn't / couldn't REQUIRE vaccinations or mask wearing. Basically the same stance that Longhorn is taking.

So I'm still not seeing the difference between what we did just a few month's ago and what Longhorn is down now.

I have a client looking for a JavaScript developer. Full time, remote, with benefits (health insurance, 401k, PTO).

Hit me up for details.

@eric @john Sure I can’t persuade either of you to give Bluesky a try?

@ramsey wants more PHP folk on there. So do I, come to that.

john,

@maxtappenden don’t even know what it is. Sounds like just another social network. @eric @ramsey

john,

@maxtappenden @ramsey @eric max, I take it you work there?

I’ll check it out, can’t hurt to.

Learned how to play Catan Starfarers at last week thanks to @omnicolor and others.

Played tonight, just a few rounds of a modified 2 player version with my 7 year old because my 9 year old is sick and couldn’t join.

The 7 year old loves it so far and is picking up very quickly on the game play.

Wished I would have gotten a couple of photos during, didn’t think about it until it was all put away. 😿

If you attended in-person or virtually last week, please be sure to give us feedback here: https://joind.in/event/phptek-2023/comments

We are looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly. As long as the comments are constructive and actionable, we will take it to heart. If it's mean just to be mean, it will be ignored.

Thanks to all who attended my talk “Put a UUID On It!” at , especially to those who laughed at my jokes and got the Portlandia references—you’re the real heroes. 😉

The slides are linked to from Joind.in, and while you’re there, please rate the talk and provide feedback. Thanks!

john,

@ramsey @logicbomb321 @eric you can still purchase a ticket on the site. We will get the recordings polished up and on the site as soon as possible.

It’s an odd decision for not to stream the keynote and some of the talks for virtual attendees, but I guess they need an incentive to motivate people to actually show up in person. 🤷🏽‍♂️

john,

@ian @JosephLeedy every single keynote has technical issues. 😿😿😿 We learned a ton this year.

The full videos with mostly good audio will be available as soon as we can get them done.

One thing I learned: when you buy equipment that’s supposed to record every input whether streamed or not, don’t assume that feature is enabled by default. Hint: it isn’t.

Behold this snippet of test-related code that I showed to @omerida that he commented was "a legitimate use of anonymous classes"

john,

@grmpyprogrammer @omerida 🙀

My brain is hurting.

john,

@grmpyprogrammer @omerida

I bet there was something like this in that code too:

public function __call($name, $args) {
$this->indexer->$name(...$args);
}

I know every week I post a link to PHPUgly and not many people click on it.

Tomorrow night however, if you care about my personal life, you will want to tune in for a story from my week that I believe has a HUGE impact on my life.

You can even click on this now and click the bell to be notified. Trust me, you will be saying "No Way! You've been watching too many movies."
