'“This is not what students bring to school,” Sheppard said, holding the chain to the camera. “These are heavy industrial chains that were locked with bike locks, and this is what we encountered on every door inside of Hamilton Hall.”
'But this is exactly what students bring to school, and it’s a bike lock chain that’s recommended to them through the Columbia University website.'

"The Internet Archive is now home to the Aruba Collection, which hosts digitized versions of Aruba’s National Library, National Archives, and other institutions including an archaeology museum and the University of Aruba. The collection comprises 101,376 items so far—roughly one for each person who lives on the Island—including 40,000 documents, 60,000 images, and seven 3D objects."
@jmccyoung@ai6yr the music of dits and dahs, patterns turning into a voice, then a meaning, like reading text, naturally. I can understand why people find peace in it.
@tg9541@ai6yr My father was a ham radio operator in the '50s and '60s and maybe even back into the '40s - W6WRX - and he had a telegraph bug I found utterly fascinating. I never learned Morse but he was good enough that he could understand and transmit it pretty well.
@ai6yr Are you still in the market for a bike light? I recently ran across this: https://luxebiking.com/collections/all/products/zynon (maybe via an Instagram ad?) & today was the first dark morning ride I tried it on & it is in fact bright! I've had the predecessor to https://www.serfas.com/shop/products/lights/usm-1000-e-lume-1000-headlight/ for about 6 years but the battery life has gotten a little short & when I saw the Luxe one for essentially the same price I went for it. It's huge & heavy (c.0.75lb!) but effective & seems durable. My first "see" vs. "be seen" light.
