It must really be something to work in tech and be able to just relocate almost anywhere you want and still have your job or easily get another job that lets you work remotely. I'm jealous of that

javierk4jh,
@javierk4jh@social.afront.org avatar

@MLE_online @InstantArcade For tax reasons, you have to tell them where you live. It wouldn't be just your employer coming after you if you cheat on that, you'd have the IRS looking for you too. And some state's tax agency.

I think work has accidentally reused the same internal codename for three totally unrelated projects, and this is making searching for some of the documentation and conversations with devs rather difficult.

Here’s a oddity.. I have an FT857&SignaLink that work fine for WSJT-X. I tried recording the audio with Audacity and even with its mic gain at max, recorded audio was very weak. I changed to FM, and used a low-power Baofeng to transmit some voice. S9+++ signal at the 857… but again, very low recorded audio. Turned up the RX control on the SignaLink, but not much louder recording. Do 857’s just emit very low audio through their “data” connector?

javierk4jh,
@javierk4jh@social.afront.org avatar

@smitty @W1CDN @M0CUV I have a Signalink USB, and it expects line-level signals. I have it connected to the data port on my Yaesu FT-950 for digital modes. 73 de K4JH

California has this thing called Rule 21 which dictates a whole family of grid health response behaviors that solar inverters are required to implement, so if the local voltage or frequency move outside of the expect 240V/60.0Hz the solar inverters respond accordingly to help promote grid stability.

I find it kind of strange that I can't find much discussion of EVSEs implementing a similar behavior. If the local grid frequency falls below 59.8Hz, why aren't EV chargers tapering off their charge power just like how solar inverters taper off their power as the grid moves above 60.2Hz?

javierk4jh,
@javierk4jh@social.afront.org avatar

@kwf The EVSEs wouldn't implement this, because the charge circuitry is in the car. The EVSE just provides mains power, plus a pilot signal to tell the car the max current draw it supports.

I was walking my dog this evening, and one of my neighbors was up on a ladder looking very confused trying to replace the floodlight above their garage.

So I helped them out, and apparently he's a sales rep for Hint, so he hooked me up. 🥰

For how much I bitch about owning a house, I sure got one in the right neighborhood

@mcdanlj I always book hotels, rental cars and airline tickets on the vendor's website (marriott.com, hertz.com, delta.com, etc) thinking that eliminating variables is a good idea. Sometimes consolidators and online travel agencies have discounted rooms, cars and fares but I've read so many anecdotes of nightmares due to lost reservations even on paid reservations that I figured the savings aren't worth the potential hassle.
