@hotdogsladies It’s always interesting to see what ways your GPT helps you - it is a great example of the common and mundane things it might really help a lot of people with☺️

I wonder if you feed it a Japanese manual (so many domestic things are Japanese-only here) and ask it about error codes or documented troubleshooting steps in English, will it do better than Google Translate and my guessing 😅

(Wera Drivers are awesome, I’ve used them for 20 years🪛)

@gruber I have a collection of stickers, from 1970s to recent ones, but nowadays a huge CE brand doesn’t really garner the type of fans that would put Apple logos on their car, as I once did. Some will miss them, but I bet 99% get left in the box until it’s thrown out years later.

It would be like how we’d feel if Brother included stickers with laser printers now - that’s probably how the vast majority of customers see Apple (only the 5% pre-iPhone would feel differently).

@gruber so very true - but when I was a Genius back in 2006-7, there seemed to be more Apple fans in there - the ones who would use the stickers.

Even with several hundred million more stickers given out, I still see about as many Apple stickers in the wild as I used to from the G3 days.

The stores are great (& service centers too), but percentage-wise now seem to serve a tiny sliver of the Apple installed base (who’d miss stickers).

I think most Apple customers (now) have not visited one.

I really enjoyed RotL’s theme this week, with John’s point about words totally meaning different things to different bubbles now.

Merlin’s follow-up is even better - leading to the wonderful term “leveraged insophistication”, but John’s point reminds me of the M*ASS people holding meme stocks calling anyone raising concerns “shills” (illustrated by Dan Olsen’s recent video)😵‍💫

I had an editor once who FedEx’d her horses cross-country between California and Florida properties. FedEx didn’t offer this service, but it did for her. This was in 2000. A very different time in journalism.

This one was perfect. It reminds me of these intricate balsa & doped tissue paper airplane models flown indoors, gliding to a stop.

I watched the designer of these (a guy also making scale model blimps fly with old scavenged hard drive motors) fly one - it had the same feeling.

(I built this model, but never got it tissue-papered successfully)

@gbhnews While out cycling in the mountains here in Japan last week, I came across a Shinto shrine with a very old Kayaki tree that is 7 feet in diameter. The massive branches are broken & rotted away (lost in a typhoon?), but younger ones are growing strong.

The image doesn’t convey how thick & chonky the gnarled trunk is. I took my wife back to visit it.

There is also a taller & narrower cedar tree, about 3 feet in Diameter.

You manage to squeeze more juice out of your GPT than anyone else! 🥛

I discovered them by chance.

Every year my work asks me to plant some flowers in our flower box, which one year included some marigold plants. They were the only ones to ever survive until fall; the dead flowers making hundreds of seeds. So I saved & raked them in when planting home center seedlings. I now put down thousands of their old seeds every spring.🌼

The seedlings even survive student weedings!🌿

@_Davidsmith @ismh Back in the 2000s driving to work on Intersrate 8 near SDSU at sunset in San Diego, there was a rocket launch out of Vandenberg, the mesmerizing contrails flying off the rocket exhaust were growing across the horizon.

I almost rear-ended someone and stopped looking, and that’s when the demolition derby began. I dodged 3 accidents, 5 happened all around me in 1 minute, and people hit guard rails on exits.

Everyone was hypnotized by the spectacle in the sky.
