Read this entire piece, wow, this had to be a pain to write, John. I don’t understand a lot of how this will all play out but the final paragraph is indeed delicious irony.

Craig submitted iPulse for iOS to the App Store yesterday and we honestly have NO IDEA if it will pass App Store review. We had to build and submit it in order to find out, so yeah. Having Apple’s shoe on the other regulatory foot is some particularly tasty schadenfreude.

@gedeonm I really don’t understand this idea of entitlement. Have people just lost the plot? Why is it odd that a business wants to see a final or at minimum semi-final product before allowing it in its store? If I went up to the powers that be at Target and said “I have this great shirt that I want to sell in your store but I’m not going to show it to you you’re just going to have to trust me you’ll like it and there’s no swastika on it I promise”, what do you think Target would say?

Perhaps indicative of a breakdown in developer relations, or just unwilling to blindly prop up a new platform after seeing the power it gave Apple last time round, Netflix has decided to give Apple the finger: want Netflix on your $3,500 movie headset? Use the website.

Negotiating tactic, or are we going to see more of this? I can't imagine a movie headset without Netflix

@stroughtonsmith There’s Max, Disney+, ESPN and ESPN+, YouTube, YouTubeTV (one would assume)X and a host of other video watching apps. The only one getting hurt by not being on a new platform is Netflix. People will just watch other stuff. 8 years ago when Netflix was the only one streaming it might have been an issue. But now? Nah. Not even the slightest. Too much other competition. Not a big deal to consumers at all.

@stroughtonsmith I have to believe that won’t last long. There will be more pressure on Google to add a native YT app then on Netflix to add a dedicated Netflix app. Just my hunch. There are already vids, however, of people playing YT in Safari using Apple’s native video player on the Vision Pro and it looks amazing. Haven’t seen a Netflix vid yet. Maybe will look the same 🤷🏻‍♂️ Who knows. Google will piss and moan like usual and then come out with something lol. That’s my guess

Pictures on the timeline seem to always load so slowly in @MonaApp anyone experiencing the same or happen to know why? Are there settings I should change? When I scroll I seem to always have to stop for a second or two when scrolling past every other post or so just to wait for the pic to load. Frustrating

Is Israel perfect every single fucking day? Hell no. When you’re trying to survive day in and day out against people whose literal procreation fantasy is to be large enough to wipe Jews off the planet. So no, there are no war crimes when your opponent doesnt believe in rules for fuck’s sake

The Israeli government has cut off food, water, and fuel to 2 million people inside Gaza as part of its campaign to stamp out Hamas terrorism. Collective punishment is not only contrary to international law, it is inhumane and illogical. It is what my community once endured in World War II, all because of the actions of others who happened to share our ethnicity. Have we learned nothing? How will this possibly help deescalate the violence rather than radicalize many more? It is madness.

Terrorists can murder, steal, break into citizens homes, murder complete families, hold dozens (that we know of) hostage, burn down buildings, and act like the animals that they are. But it’s Israel who is supposed to abide by rules? It’s Israel that the world says “must be responsible” and abide by an “international law” that their enemy takes absolutely no part in? F off. @viticci Completely agree. She’s an amazing lyricist and knows hooks and melodies. Such a young age. Her producer is also amazing. Together they make quite the team. Just listened to the album in full on my Sennheiser Momentum 4s and sound was incredible. She reminds me a lot of Alanis when she hit the scene.

Everyone is so salty here about Meta. I've been online my whole life, I'm ok giving away some privacy for services.I know it's not only public posts, but you know, an iOS app won't simply steal your data. Threads is not uploading all my photos, threads is not locating me, threads is not accessing my health data. Sure the privacy sheet is ugly. But iOS give you control.

To be honest tho, I don't give a fuck. If I wanted to be off the grid I would not have a phone or be on Mastodon.

@matt They said they are planning to add a “follower only” feed so just a feed with people you follow like IG has. However I read they didn’t want to do that day one, they wanted people to be able to actually use the app because most people wouldn’t have any followers then initially and there would be very little interaction. So they just made a one size fits all feed so people could build their timeline and interact. The chronological, followers only feed they say is coming! 👍

The funniest thing about threads so far is that anyone who has been in software for a while can immediately see what happened here: they reduced scope to launch an early milestone.

There's a lot that feels very incomplete. Basic functionality missing, no web UI. The "threads" icon on web just switches between dark mode and light mode.

It's very obvious that this is unpolished, alpha-level stuff that got launched. No AP support, that's "coming soon".

They wanted to eat Musk's lunch big time.

@matt I really liked the first 75% of it. Then she stabbed her father after she thought he was attacking her but it was the demon instead yada yada and it kind of went off the rails for me. Not terrible. But probably wouldn’t recommend when there are other better horror movies out there to watch. If you haven’t seen Smile, saw that a couple weeks ago. Much much better IMO

@matt Haha. Yeah but I think we can appreciate something different being done in the horror genre. I’ve been watching horror movies since the early 80s and it’s hard to spook me nowadays. lol. I feel like I’ve seen everything that can be done. Smile seemed to get me a little bit, maybe it’s just the bizarreness of the actual smiling and then knowing it was going to trigger something after the smile that got me. I’m tempted to go see The Nun 2 in theaters this week.
