hyakinthos, to askfedi

I am looking for a blogging service where I can write articles on my local machine on emacs, then SSH/scp them onto the server.

I found gemlog.blue, but that seems to force users to compose the text in a GUI window. Apparently it’s deliberate, as they advertise:

“No need for system administration tools like sftp, ssh, rsync, scp, etc.”

For advanced users, those tools actually make our workflow /easier/.

Hi Fedi Family,
In 2008 Californians voted for Prop8 that defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman in the California constitution. While this was defeated in courts this draconian Prop8 language is still in the California constitution. Justice tHomas and the right wing SCOTUS is openly hinting at destroying precedent and trampling rights. If they overturned Obergefell - the Prop8 language in the California Constitution will act as a “trigger law”, raining havoc on queer families like mine across California.
Please spread the word to vote “YES” to repeal Prop8 (2008) from the California constitution in Nov 2024. Talk to your friends, family and colleagues about it.

Boosts appreciated.

hyakinthos,

@yazad3 The not-so-fun fact: the republican strategists who pushed ballot props to block did not actually give a shit one way or another what the marriage outcome was. It was just a sneaky trick to motivate a non-voting segment of elderly R voters to the polls, who would be damned if gays could marry. And of course once they’re in the voting booth they tick the R boxes as well.

So the reversal propositions might have the same effect (more R votes from otherwise unmotivated voters).

The new general #enshittification trend on the #Web:

> Please verify you are a human without any Ad Blockers turned on.

#Captcha dialogs that don't work unless you turn off your #adblocker .. of course you might allow the specific #tracker that makes the captcha functional, but not always clear which one to pick.

hyakinthos,

What if you need to reach an agency or organisation who puts a between you and a contact form submission?

hyakinthos,

@martin_fff
That’s not exactly the question. I also have not needed to use such websites so far, but this will change w/ #digitalTransformation. What happens when, e.g., the gov requires you to use their website for something, & the site imposes disabling the ad blocker?

I recently needed to reserve part of a road for house construction. The local gov has discontinued in-person applications for reserving public space. Thus I was forced to use their website.

hyakinthos,

@martin_fff
That website did not require disabling a popup blocker, but for other reasons I don’t recall, the website was unusable to me. So in the end I did not ask permission to use the road.

Note that #Mastodon’s webclient is dysfunctional to some extent with popup blockers. If you try to post an image and you want to add some alttext, the mechanism to add the text requires filling out a popup that’s broken if you block popups.

I am very disappointed that
@protonvpn has made
the split-tunneling and LAN connection whitelist function on their #android client a paid feature. I have a
limited budget that I'm able to spend on
online services /month including #privacy tools. A #VPN subscription did
not fit into that budget before especially with a fairly respectable free alternative that existed. Now that I cannot rely on this service I'm forced to increase my monthly costs and I will be chosing another service.

#protonvpn

hyakinthos,

My VOIP calls over VPN have gone silent. Connection is established but there is no audio in either direction. Has anything changed on the gratis #protonVPN plan that would disrupt VOIP? My VOIP provider’s technicians are stumped. They say they made no recent changes. #askFedi
