The fuck kind of Christian was my family? Vague memories:

  • church Elders, and a pastor
  • "born again"
  • Thought we were Protestants (when I learned about that in normal school history), but nobody called themselves that? So like an offshoot?
  • Not a mega-church, not associated with other churches
  • Typical first service everyone, second service the kids went downstairs to Sunday School, free cookies and drinks in between
  • The music was the boring kind, not the cool rock-band kind
  • The bread and wine (grape juice) wasn't literal
  • I have vague memories of thinking someday I should go to Israel for a, pilgrimage? I don't know? Why did I think this?
  • Study bibles (King James edition)
  • Baptisms in your teens
  • Wasn't fire and brimstone teaching
  • Weird undertones of racism that I'm still shaking out of my psyche decades later

Did I grow up Evangelical? Is THAT what that fuckery was? Because eyyyyy that sure is the topical one now, fuck.

@glassbottommeg there's a lot of overlap but it does sound evangelical. Could've also been a Pentecostal offshoot. What was the name of the church if it's not too sensitive. There would be big clues in that such as "assembly of god" being Pentecostal or "free will baptist" being a heavy evangelical offshoot of baptists, etc.

@glassbottommeg might be worth tossing the church name into the wikipedia search rectangle to get an idea. Protestantism has a weird flowchart that ranges from vaguely catholic but highly socially liberal to heavy occult but severely socially conservative.

@glassbottommeg Sounds like Just A Church (TM) to me, as previously mentioned. Perhaps with a smattering of evangelical, nazarene, and maybe baptist or pentecostal influences (though the no hellfire negates the latter two a bit).

@nathanlovestrees @glassbottommeg methodists are more via media and liturgical than the description provided. i was raised in a church associated with the methodist southern conference and it was quite different than the description provided.

@nathanlovestrees @glassbottommeg it's possible you were in something closer to the free/free will methodist church which is an offshoot of methodists that aligns more with the holiness movement. the methodist church i was in was "mainstream" (?) traditional methodist what with the governing body and all that.

Been hearing whispers all weekend, some from people who I'd definitely listen to, of a remote execution 0day in the Signal desktop and possibly also mobile app. Mitigation is supposedly to disable link previews (under settings->chats).

I have no more details. What I've heard doesn't completely make sense, but disabling link previews should be at worst harmless and seems prudent until this is clarified.

right. OS updates applied. disk space cleanup performed. OS drive imaged, integrity checked, and verified mountable. recovery USB created and verified bootable. file backups complete. bitlocker recovery keys saved, password vault backed up. guess it's time to attempt the win11 upgrade path.
