Texas is opposed even to clarity in its laws. 9 Republicans. It figures. Citizens in fear of capricious prosecution are easier to control.

For those telling themselves, "MAGA-controlled states may try to pass unconstitutional laws, but the courts will protect us..."

If Trump gets another term, SCOTUS could end up with an 8-1 conservative bench, with the majority being Trump-appointed.

@TonyStark If we had an ethical SCOTUS, attempts to rein in states like Texas could well push them to attempt secession (again), with certain billionaires' encouragement.

@StillIRise1963 My dog is relatively undisturbed by thunder and lightning, but is terrified by heavy downpours. We rescued her when she'd been tied up outside in terrible weather for days.

What is the best solution for those horrible tiny black beetles that always chew up my eggplant leaves? I normally don't use anything more potent than insecticidal soap but it barely has any effect on them. And although it's satisfying, I can't stay ahead of them by smashing them between my fingers.

@the_turtle Not scale, but little bugs called Flea Beetles. Apparently organic pesticides aren't effective. In the past I've managed to keep the plants alive until the beetles were done, but that can take a couple months, and it's getting harder the hotter our summers get.

@_L1vY_ @the_turtle Yes, the Safer brand. It's been fine for most plants, but I guess I need to hit the beetles a little harder. I know they'll be back in a couple days (esp. with the rain). That's one reason the diatomaceous earth sounds like a good idea.

@StillIRise1963 My wife and I were talking about this the other day. She gets defensive because when we were in college there was one fraternity that had kind of been "taken over" by really cool and creative types. So whenever I say something critical she'll say "they aren't all like that".

Then I reminded her that right after we graduated, that fraternity's national organization revoked their charter and reconstituted it. Apparently they don't even display photos from that era in the house.

Sure. Take a stand against genocide by allowing the party back in that's inviting Israel to end the war in Gaza the way the U.S. ended the war in Japan.

@StillIRise1963 @lin11c @aral As far as my son son goes, I understand his frustration and I'm genuinely proud that he cares enough to get angry about the situation. But yes, there are lots of people working very hard to sow doubt and confusion.
