I noticed recently that an old blog site of mine stopped loading its styles.css and so displayed see as a horrible mess. Nothing has changed on the site, just the browser.

The reason?

Today's browsers (ie anything based) are becoming authoritarian about what they will display. This isn't a security issue, but an increasing stringency on something that makes no sense at all.

The solution?

Remove <!DOCTYPE> and pretend you're an old website, so they need to display as it was. 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

@tek it's not just ADHD, many of us have inherent difficulties with systems that are designed to distract and control by taking advantage of individual vulnerabilities and disabilities.

Ads are purposely toxic by nature.

I've yet to get a better response from a local LLM to a code question than I get from a web search or going to StackExchange etc. Are you finding good uses yet?

I confess I haven't tried too hard, but then most people won't and that's the point really anyway. 🤷‍♂️

I expect they should be good for accessibility, such as speech in/out but an not seeing those apps. Why not?! 🤦‍♂️

Although I see Mozilla have put a local LLM in Firefox to generate alt text for images.

Oooooof. @baldur's take on the Jobs to be Done of modern software development is brutal.

The conclusion is pretty sobering too: that LLMs will become embedded in software development because they truly deliver on this promise of churn, and do it at lower cost than software developers.

@koteisaev Many are limited because of issues like that, but #Autonomi is designed to avoid centralisation issues from the ground up.

Take a look at https://docs.autonomi.com and if you have questions I'll try to answer them.

All but the last three you list are eliminated. Of those three:

  • ✅ yes, you need solutions for NAT.
  • ✅ trusting a random node is ok because the protocol ensures nodes behave.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'bloat of overload'. I don't see an issue there.

I remain hopeful. Products ultimately have to work and when they don't those behind them lose.

Reminds me of Jobs and the Apple Newton, the doomed forerunner to the Apple iPod and ultimately the iPhone. All from Jobs' vision and drive, one an utter failure, like the car 🤷‍♂️. I can hear someone saying why didn't we just put #LLMs in it... 🤦‍♂️

#p2p can change this, or at least make a dent as big as #FOSS. Together? 🥳

@koteisaev its a utility token that enables a decentralised economy:

  • users upload data and pay noderunners with the token
  • noderunners earn the token and can use it to upload data

It isn't blockchain, but uses encryption to ensure the integrity of data and tokenomics.

I get the reservations people have about 'crypto' projects but to label every project as bad because it has some similarities to a bad thing is irrational.

Without a token, how can you reward people providing resources?

@koteisaev the token enables an on network economy not just for core services but for anyone who has something to offer. It also pays for useful app development and maintaining the network core.

As for fiat, there will be people wanting to buy tokens to store data and access other services, and people who want to sell to them.

The token enables the network to be autonomous and self sustaining, accessible to everyone. No servers, no gatekeepers, no dictators.

Just you and the network.

Many consider that #p2p contradictory to such use cases as organizations, project teams, tasks, wiki, Jira-like or YouTrack-like software, and other use-cases that require restricted access and support of permissions.
But implementing such things would be a fascinating goal per se.
Sadly I don;t have too much time to spend on that, and I am not a pro in P2P development, just a newbie touching this scope with curiosity in this context.

You don't necessarily need new skills to build #p2p apps these days.

I'm finishing off a demo app which publishes websites to #Autonomi and also acts as a viewer.

I can't really call it a browser because it is very basic, but it does one thing that the current web tooling doesn't support: you can browse every version of any published website, forever. No link rot!

Using #TauriV2 I can build for desktop and mobile, and have done early testing on Windows, Linux and Android.

These stories when #State installs various #spyware such as #pegasus give me not just creepy/eerie feeling.
Such stories questions suitability usage of any electronic device, let it be a linux desktop/laptop or any smartphone, even suc as e/OS equipped, not speaking about standard iOS/Android devices.
And it pushes down motivation for developing any #p2p software as well, just because if your risk model includes government spyware installation on your devices, this is beyond their usage scope.

I'm hopeful, even confident that #p2p can and will help with device level surveillance such as #Pegasus #spyware one day.

For example, it has been discussed and mitigations proposed on the #Autonomi forum, though not recently. Ideas such as booting from the network using any device, using the secure services it provides and then logging off without leaving traces.

Easier said than done, but something worth assuming for.

Having beaten Windows .BAT files and FTP into submission on one laptop (thanks #WinSCP) while getting my #TauriV2 app to build for #Android on another, today I will be figuring out how to debug it with #AndroidStudio.

It almost works. I can call #RustLang from the #Svelte GUI, but my custom protocol handlers aren't being called. 🤔

I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature :awesome:

I've been mostly writing bash scripts to automate things around development, testing and publishing of my demo and it's been fun.

At the same time it feels like I'm not doing the "important stuff" of developing the demo, when in reality it will make time doing that way more efficient. 🤷‍♂️

However, the final script is on Windows, to build and upload to an ftp server, so my Windows torture isn't quite over.

At least I have ftp working now.

BTW Windows' standard #ftp is useless so... #WinSCP

I didn't find the option when buying recently and shortly after was told by support that they don't support .

This was a which I've had for about a month.

I'm dual booting 24 and it is good enough. Good enough that I've not bothered looking for any drivers yet and loving the super fast development.

Apparently 's have been using veiled , and to undermine the for years. Against the prosecutor previously in charge of investigating crimes against .

This was personally undertaken by the then head of Mossad who is now rising in Israeli politics.

This isn't just about or a recent swing to extremism in Israel, these crimes have been ongoing for decades but are now blatant and impossible to hide, support by US/UK governments.

I'm currently being reminded how I hate having to use #Windows and how insanely crap is support for online hosting.

I'm trying to upload using Windows ftp command and it all goes fine, even the file is created on the server but the file is empty due to some error establishing the data connection.

Some report solving this error by setting passive mode in the client, which #Windows10 ftp doesn't support

Support guy tells me: create an #FTP account and you can use Windows ftp or any FTP client 🤦‍♂️
