@nanorepublica it's a tricky one. I've seen the same thing you're describing with many junior folks coming to Django. But I think there's also utility in db GUIs for folks who find visual representations useful or want a quick overview of, for example, constraints.

Chemical toilet?

Please dispose of it at the two points on site.
Do not, we repeat, not empty them in the accessible loos or any other loo, for two reasons.

  1. The accessible loo fills up and then people who need it can’t use it.
  2. The poo truck charges us for a chemical load not a human waste load (super pricey).

Chatting to the local farmer (land owner rather than the tenant actually looking after the sheep) and he was claiming that locally nesting Buzzards are killing lambs. I'm suspicious about this, and even web 'rural life' forums you'd kinda think would be anti-raptor seem to be largely unconvinced that this happens. Ravens may seem more likely to blame, but of course a Buzzard's gonna peck at an already dead one. 🤷 #ukBirds #farming

I have a longer rant about this that I will write up at some point, but here's the TL;DR: yes, you should attend conference talks, and please stop telling other attendees (especially those new to the community) to categorically skip them. Supporting conference speakers and the staff and volunteers that work to make the talks possible is a very cool decision.

Is it me or is the #Django documentation for project templates uncharacteristically bad?

Like, I have so many questions about how this templating works. Do I get to template filenames? How? Can I include the template as a subdirectory in a repository, or do I need to have it hosted in its own? How about providing one as part of a wheel?

I would love to build a project template into NomNom, so that later worldcons can just “django-admin startapp --template nomnom:basic_template" or something.

Big day: saw a baby that shares some of my genes in a only-slightly-roundabout fashion.

Big head, not much hair, tiny feet/hands, alternated between being audibly upset and sleeping: yup, that's a baby.

(Also describes me, but like, who's counting.)

Torn between "well at least /someone/ is carrying on the family name” and “gonna feel /so/ bad for this kid once they grow up enough to see the ugly future staring them in the face”.

TIL how to use itertools.dropwhile() to get all lines from a file after a specific line. I always used to write my own loop to solve this problem.

I'm curious, have you heard of dropwhile()? Have you used it?
