Confession of a dinosaur: I don't care for PiP, which video platforms seem to think everyone wants.

When I leave a web page or app screen with a playing video I want the playback to stop, not follow me. I'm a non multitasking dinosaur and that PiP window is distracting as hell, not to mention it feels like a video ad. But I guess this boosts the content consumption and engagement metrics.

Create a group for yourself, when multiple devices aren't supported seamlessly.

I keep a group "My Devices" with only my own devices in it.

I'll forward any message that I want to open/view/copy on another device to this group.

I've even used it to share links instead of allowing a browser to synchronize my tabs/history.

@tcely i have a personal room on Matrix for sharing text snippets and even files between devices and computers. Super handy.

The OpenStreetMap Matrix room had a sole admin who isn't active anymore, so I created a new room for general english OSM discussion. It's :hacklab.fi and can be found via the OSM space -space:matrix.org with other rooms related to the project.

    I am looking for something like a blogging software and after the experience with mastodon it would want it to be connected to the fediverse...

    And no, i'd prefer not to run a wordpress (again).

    Someone posted a not-very-blurred image with a list of pornhub categories on it, you can still easily read the top of the list. Amused to see that one of the categories is "British".

    What even is British porn? Cup of tea on the table next to the rutting-pit? Creative ingestion of battered haddock? Cage-locked biscuit barrel? Thatcher fetish?

    @mcfly our self-made software called Mulysa. We didn't find anything to match our needs so had to write one.

    Main feature is that it can import data from bank and automatically update the membership statuses.

    It also has API for opening door if user has door access.

    It also acts as oauth provider, so we can authenticate other services (wiki, blog, matrix, etc) against it.

    If a random person gives you source code and asks to debian package it, is there any proper way to install it's Build-Depends with apt beforehand?

    I've only found some shady scripts that extract the field. What would be the proper debian way to do it?

    @J12t the article claims usenet is decentralized and p2p, which it's not. It's a closed federation - you can't run your own server that is equal to all other servers in the federated. It has nothing P2P (federated is not P2P).

    We need real modern alternative for USENET that's open federation and properly federated. Maybe it's over activitypub or Matrix. It could also be bridged with oldschool USENET and web forums.

    I'm confused by Apples Game Porting Toolkit. Is this something windows developers need to use to make their game run on a Mac, in which case Apple will make them jump though silly hoops (sandboxing, notarization, store submission, etc) that will turn off/scare most Windows developers, or is this something that happens automatically?

    automatic audio message transcription is a great and useful accessibility feature. When someone sends a audio it might be quicker for them, but on the other end it might be a problem to hear at that particular moment, so being able to read it makes all the difference.

    @Mehrad I've seen that,but it's quite FUD if you look at Matrix column. I'd recommend against sharing that. It recommends Signal which is questionable advice.
