More romantic fairytale buildings, these two are thatched and based on buildings I know well.

A significant update to an old favourite. The client has been using the map in family games over the last year and wanted to update a few details based on in game events, including a few more interesting cities in the south west, a town in the north west that had become haunted, the change in ownership of a tower and updates to the style of a few locations. This is super easy for me to do and gave me a chance to revisit the colour scheme and bring a more vibrant map. #map #cartography #ttrpg

Line work on the country map of Maeve is complete . I’ll finish the ornate borders next then adding colour will hopefully make this map pop into life. Commission is a map for alloraleanne on Twitter... #cartography #cartographer

Another colour variation for the dwarf mountain map. I think I’ve finally cracked doing distressed old print text look on the iPad, I’ll do a tutorial soon, but for now I’m super pleased with the look of the text. I’ve got different versions of this map for purchase on my Etsy store, link on my website.

Very early work in progress for a map I’m working on for alloraleanne on Twitter. I’ve started drawing the ornate border which right now features trees, flowers and dragons…#linedrawing #mapping #dndmap #dndcartography #cartography #cartographer #rpg #dnd #roleplaying #fantasy #map #ttrpgart #largemap #gamesmaster #rpggame #dndcreatives #dndassets #roleplaying #ttrpg

Blueprint version of the astral scarab flying machine. I love that I’m able to get double value out of my schematic style maps be making them into blueprints. I think on balance I prefer the normal version, but it’s fab having both options. If you want this map, full resolution digital file, head over to DriveThruRPG (link on the download page of my website) and pick it up for completely FREE.

The dwarven city cross section map is finally finished. A geological survey focused on rock types feels a likely product of an underground society. As a result I’ve made the strata and faults of the rocks the most vibrant and detailed part of the map, leaving the tunnels and buildings as mostly negative space. I’m super pleased with how it turned out. Map will be on sale as an art print soon. #ttrpg #gamemap #gamemaps #mapmaker #mapmakers #cartography #cartographer #cavecity

chloethecartographer,

@sarajw I have, it's been a while, but I do love them.

chloethecartographer,

@sarajw not specifically, although there is a lot to love about their culture. I was actually channelling dungeons and dragons dwarfs or dwarfs from the game dwarf fortress.

chloethecartographer,

@claudius thanks

Map emergency; the client needed a board game like map for a war game. The location “stencils” are from Japanese woodblocks by Hokusai and Hiroshi which are in the public domain which set the tone and created an unusual aesthetic. #ttrpg #BoardGameMaps #cartography

I often see a few stunning maps employing the full three point technique which I love. It’s a rarer sight to see one-point perspective used and I think it’s potentially worth looking at. It can be used to keep the fidelity of a 2D map. So you get the best of both worlds a 2D map with accurate two dimensional distances and a feeling of depth which can convey character. On this cut away map I chose one point perspective with the vanishing point in the center of the image. #perspectivedrawing

Fun labelling of the rock strata, which as a happy accident forms an attractive border at the bottom. I’m now done with linework; I want to experiment with some colour, I’m thinking of a watercolour esq wash, emulating the style of printed maps hand coloured. #cartography #ttrpg #worldbuilder

It’s not done; I’ve got quite a bit of detail to add, settlements, roads, etc. but this gives a taste of the concept I’m heading towards. I like this topology and render now, the mountains look like mountain chains, the hills are hilly, the plains are flat, the rivers are visible and they are all where they should be for the Moonshea isles. There are still issues, I have somehow lost heightmap precision. Getting there. #worldbuilding #mapping #cartography #cartographer #rpg #dnd #map #ttrpg

chloethecartographer,

@mpirnat hilarious, I'll fix that

Who are your favourite #ttrpg map creators in the space, #ttrpgcommunity? For any game. Do you have a fav for battle maps, hex, world maps, point crawls? Any other types?

chloethecartographer,

@rivetgeek @monkeyslunch @dysonlogos. Every one of Dyson’s maps are epic and inspiring. Big fan.

A step closer to the vision I have of a realistic looking topographical map of the Moonshea Isles, Faerun. The challenge is creating a realistic topography for a defined fantasy land. There are plenty of ways to create a new fantasy world, but I need the coastlines, rivers and mountains to be exact. Here I rendered the output of a process to realistically erode the topographical height map I drew to achieve this realism. #worldbuilding #worldbuilder #mapping #dndmap #cartography #cartographer

chloethecartographer, to art

Think and thick line technique, sometimes called thin-thick line emphasis, is a way to quickly improve line drawings and make them pop, especially if they are hard to read overlapping 3d shapes. It’s all about thickening selective lines that show any edge that joins to a surface you can’t see. Lines that join two surfaces you can both see remain thin. Many artists do this instinctively, and it’s not a hard and fast rule. Have fun with it. #drawing #howtodraw #sketching #illustration

chloethecartographer, to worldbuilding

Next level world building, a thread. I’m experimenting with digitally painting directly onto a 3d sphere to lay out the geography during world building. I want the world to have a realistic distribution of continents, that I can the project with distortion that a cartographic projection such as Mercator brings (this is a simple cylindrical projection here). I also want the geography to be at least linked to some geophysics. 1/3
