@tennis impressive win by Michelsen over Fritz. He was the better player throughout, but to steady himself and get the break back for the lead after having several match points on his serve showed a lot. He’s got a ton of upside as well with how much more he can develop physically. #Tennis

@emarktaylor@tennis he clearly was not going to get back to a top level as a professional player. I was there was some analysis explaining how his game was different. It seems perhaps just a slight drop in forehand speed or something. It was hard to see what exactly was different except he seemed not capable of bossing points like he used to and got pushed further and further back.

It just seems we’ve gotten used to the same four guys more or less winning everything for twenty years (when they actually weren’t playing fewer events with less frequent changes in balls) that we continue to expect it’s just the same exact guys at the top are supposed to show up every week and win everything. It’s okay if Andrey Rublev or god forbid FAA or Ruud wins a 1000 tournament. Tennis history was full of these types of guys winning some big titles or even an odd Major title. We don’t need to have a four man single elimination tournament every week there is a men’s event. Sorry for the rant, but I’m not really sympathetic to these complaints. #Tennis

@tennis Recently heard that Estoril has been bumped off of the ATP calendar for 2025. This is a real shame. I was fortunate to go to Lisbon and attend the Estoril Open in 2023. A great club, very well attended event and a beautiful part of the world. I hope they find a place for it in the 2025 calendar and can put it back at the start of the European clay court swing in 2026. #Tennis#atptourtennis

I’ve long been skeptical of CAS as many of their decisions over the years have seemed politically convenient, but if their reasoning holds up, then this is a real blow to the concept of the biological passport and opens up avenues for doping athletes. #tennis

Was Andrey defaulted for the alleged profanity in Russian or for screaming [anything] in a line umpire's face? We've been asking the sport to protect officials for a while; it's a big precedent to set.

@tennis stopped watching the match with Khachanov up a break in the third and Lehechka looking to have some minor physical problems. Really did not see that comeback coming. Khachanov looked so solid and in command. Nice win for Lehechka. #tennis
@dillonmok@tennis I’m sad for Struff that he hasn’t been able to build more on the relatively good year he had last year. Some injuries and tough draws haven’t helped. I’d probably consider him the best ATP player without a tour level title.

Great op-ed by Christie and Martina. If the WTA does go into KSA they are willfully stating that they are wanting to repeat the same type of mistake that they made with China. I really like the idea for an organization like the WTA to have a statement of principles that can anchor all of these types of decisions and inform everyone who is doing business with the WTA just what they are all about. #Tennis#wta

Interested to see if ESPN will get into the specifics about how Australian Open longshot semifinalist Dayana Yastremska got a doping ban overturned in 2021. It’s quite a story!
@emarktaylor@tennis he had severe pain in his ankle before the match. I didn’t see that it was a diagnosed injury and it seemed to clear up by the time the match started. Rafa ended up missing Miami, Monte Carlo and Barcelona due to this injury.
