We need more of this. Senior devs need to convey to junior devs that mistakes happen to everyone. My favorite interview question is “What’s the worst bug you’ve ever written?” But I seed it with the story of mine which is a doozy (it nuked an IBM RS/6000 workstation we didn’t have the installation media for so my boss had to drive it to the customer’s site 2 hrs away).

From Eric Matthes’ excellent “Python Crash Course” 3rd Ed.

I’m reviewing for someone else but am gonna read now.

I’m loving all of these #aurora photos. Our capacity to have shared experiences on the #fediverse cannot be overstated.

It appears quite obvious (eg Apple crush ad response, Stack Overflow post defacement/deleting) that people are feeling spicy and are ready to be ungovernable with respect to AI overlords.

This is gonna get weird.

I learned yesterday that Michael J. Fox filmed “Teen Wolf” and “Back to the Future” simultaneously, usually one in the morning and one at night. There was also a Family Ties special in there. On one day he filmed all three. 😮

I encourage my friends in #technology to watch “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office”. I’ve been horrified every time I ask software conference audiences if they had to take Computer Ethics classes at the results. We are not obliged to subjugate ourselves to technology. These are serious discussions about serious topics.

I don’t think Kristi Noem is going to outrun this story. I think it is going to dog her for years.

Thank goodness for small favors. The U.S. military is halting exploration of generative AI because <checks notes> it sucks.

TIL about Belphegor’s Prime:

1000000000000066600000000000001

It is both a prime and a palindrome and is named after one of the Seven Princes of Hell (you can see why) who was tasked with helping people make ingenious discoveries and inventions.

GTK uses Vulkan by default on Wayland now. The migration from X to Wayland is super fascinating and intricate. I’ve been watching it unfold for years and have fought the urge to do deep dives. Future UI toolkits will continue to use multiple rendering engines and will facilitate compiling for desktop and/or browser which is going to reduce interest in JavaScript UI frameworks. There are frameworks that behave/look the same as desktop and Web applications.

@tomayac Uno Platform and egui are the two that come to mind. I know I’ve seen more but I can’t remember. If I do know send. I’m convinced there will be more moving forward.
