A brief summary from France 24 of how the IDF is using its AI to identify (and misidentify) Hamas targets in Gaza.

‘The machine did it coldly’: Israel used #AI to identify 37,000 #Hamas targets - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/03/israel-gaza-ai-database-hamas-airstrikes "Israeli intelligence sources reveal use of ‘Lavender’ system in Gaza war and claim permission given to kill civilians in pursuit of low-ranking militants" #IDF shows exactly how not to use AI: to kill

@glynmoody

> Another source, who justified the use of [AI] to help identify low-ranking targets, said that “when it comes to a junior militant, you don’t want to invest manpower and time in it”. [I]n wartime there was insufficient time to carefully “incriminate every target”. “So you’re willing to take the margin of error of using [AI], risking collateral damage and civilians dying, and risking attacking by mistake, and to live with it,” they added. It’s much easier to bomb a family’s home’

It's not our fault, it's because our army doesn't obey orders.

I'm assuming the IDF sources mentioned are very unofficial and a different story will emerge when the official investigation concludes.

I'd really love to see someone held accountable for this atrocity but I wouldn''t bet on it happening.

Good reporting so far from CNN of the killing of World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza, but disappointingly still no response from the White House.

@aral

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it.

> The White House is “heartbroken and deeply troubled” by a strike that killed at least seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza and is urging Israel to investigate the incident, a spokesperson for the National Security Council says.

I just wanted to read a bit more about it, so provided a link to the article. The 'swearing' line is just my introduction to the article.

Famous Sports Illustrated has been publishing articles written by . They pretended the articles were written by humans by creating fake biographies of the "authors", complete with AI headshots.

If magazine editors are trying to reduce costs by using AI's to write articles their readers too can save money, that is, the price of the magazine, by just asking their favourite AI to generate the articles directly.

The folk who lived in our new house were clearly from money, and left the place an absolute pigsty. We moved from an ex council house so of course nothing fancy but the way we left it you could have eaten your fucking dinner off any surface.

Posh people are utterly useless tbqh.

Is it rude to say that the north American credit score system is perverse institutionalized subjugation for profit? Like that the whole economic system for consumers is a perfectly legal gangrenous teet for AmEx et.al.?

If you tell someone who’s not from the US or Canada that you are forced to continuously get into debt for all your life in order to get a mortgage or rent a place they won’t take you seriously

The seemingly random end of Fight Club makes so much more sense once you learn this
