I’m teaching a class on #literary representations of #labor & leisure. I got some good ones already (esp pre-1950s), but please share titles if you have favorite late 20th c short stories or poems that fit the bill. It’s for first-year college students, so longer works or otherwise very challenging reads aren’t going to work for assignments, but i will put stuff on a bibliography of supplementary/future reading! (& i’m full-up on films & songs)

One of #Mastodon’s best features is the edit button.
Another is that you get a notification that a post is edited so if something was wrong, you and others don’t go on thinking the wrong thing. I will never forget that a person posted their AI detection app, followed by a retraction of its accuracy—in the original post!! I knew not to rely on it bc I saw the edit flagged as an edit. #twittermigration

When the right says "we need to do something about mental illness" what they mean is what happened to Jordan Neely.

When they mention that Jordan was suffering from mental illness listen to the tone. Listen to how, like him being homeless it's a justification for ... murder.

I live in the south Bronx. I've seen some very loud, 'erratic,' belligerent even, baseball fans, drunk, peeing on our sidewalks-- why aren't they on the "just kill em for being annoying" list too?

I have to give a little address at an undergrad induction ceremony of a society that i am not myself a member of (& was never inducted into). I said yes bc the person who asked is a good egg. But prizes & societies can be kinda bs. I have a few ideas about what i could say but the more important question is what do you all think i should say. Wrong or earnest answers are both welcome!

Apparently it is #NationalAdoptAshelterPetDay. In December we adopted two cats from two shelters, Bideawee & New York City Animal Care Center (& fostered 3 from #nycacc). They’re really good. Teapot & Cloud.
