I thought this article would showcase the amazing work indies do. But there's a common thread pulled from all the interviews. Yes, the title quote is mine. No, I have not mortgaged my home.

Bottom line: indies are publishing work you won't find anywhere else. But you won't find it for long if our labour doesn't pay a living wage.

ICYMI: THE HOUSE OF DROUGHT is a World Fantasy finalist!

If you're just joining us in 2023, you might have missed this book. It's a twisty cursed house book which takes the colonization of Sri Lanka to task and makes links between present-day climate woes on the island and European water management during the colonial era.

Colonization makes a haunted house of all colonized lands, but sometimes the land fights back.

Resisting the annoyingly Canadian urge to say sorry about the fires. Channelling energy into calling my MPPs. Still not enough. Last year we published Rebecca Campbell's ARBOREALITY about Canadian wildfires. Such a beautifully written but intensely scary book which hands local communities back some agency for what they can look like in the future. That (and this) is not the future anyone wants. We all deserve the one possible if we act boldly now.

I finished Sordidez by E. G. Condé' earlier this week (it was an e-arc, it's available August 1 2023 from @StelliformPress ) and I really loved it.
