I need to update some xml this morning. Do I,
a) do it by hand in 10 minutes, or
b) spend all day learning enough python to automate it?
This isn't a mastodon poll because we all know what the answer is!

ScaredyCat,

@jtonline Wont you end up doing both ๐Ÿคฃ

I have a problem where it looks like id's in the webgui are wrong.
If I connect to the command prompt it connects to the wrong vm.

Anybody see that problem before?
And know what to do perhaps?
Happens on vm's without kvm-client running

ScaredyCat,

@hanscees If you ssh into the proxmox server does the UI match with the data generated from:

pvesh get /nodes/<host>/qemu/<vmid>/config

where <host> is the pmox server and<vmid> is the id of the VM you're looking at

ScaredyCat,

@hanscees Config files for VM's on a host are located in:

/etc/pve/qemu-server

I'd advise caution.

ScaredyCat,

@hanscees I would backup all my VM's to external storage, just in case. Full backups, shutting down the vm first. If required you should be able to restore the VM's and their configs from those backups.

Then I'd reboot and see but if your vmid's are mixed p I think it might be something else. What storage are you using? ceph? zfs?

ScaredyCat,

@hanscees Good news. Sometimes a bit of rest can make a world of difference. Glad you got it all sorted out.

This isn't my chair, but it's the same design. Mine just has oak arms and legs. Doesn't look that spectacular does it? Do you notice anything about the arms*?

There are no fastenings on the outside holding them on. All the bolts etc are on the inside, meaning it was built, then upholstered. There are no visible fastenings for the back either.

Even looking at expensive chairs as replacements, you can see how they've been built. The fixings are exposed. Flatpack chairs.

*perhaps this is what happens to you when you take up woodworking...

My office chair has broken after 15 years. It's an awesome chair, really solid (well until a leg broke). Imagine making a great chair that lasts 15 years and then not putting your company name anywhere on it. How can I buy a replacement if I don't know who you are?

Ok, so #Humax is in the bin.

I'm after a #freeview #pvr - does anyone have any recommendations.

Would be nice to have iplayer/itvx etc - not a requirement, have a firestick too.

I just compared my wife coming back from holiday to a VAT inspection. The principle is that they keep looking until they find something wrong, so it is useful to have something trivial for them to find. But I've run the dishwasher, and emptied the bins, and everything looks good, so I may have got it wrong... :-) ๐Ÿ™‚

ScaredyCat,

@revk How many minutes before she got home did you do those? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Is anyone using AnyType and have any goo/bad points on it?

I've reached my limit with Joplin repeatedly saying it can't decrypt synced notes so it's in the bin.

AnyType not Anynote

Today is the last day of a dry month. I thought not drinking may help me break through the weight loss target I set last year. It didn't - it seems I don't drink enough for it to have made a difference.
So what has a dry month done for me? About the only thing I can put my finger on is it's made me more grumpy - I really missed sitting down with a decent glass of wine or pint of beer at the end of the day two or three times a week.
Ah well, I won't be making that mistake again - live and learn!

ScaredyCat,

@NAB Have you done keto? Couple of months of that will drop the weight, unfortunately no beer in that one either!

ScaredyCat,

@NAB Wow that's pretty good going!

@neil I know it's not what you're after, but this has been on my mind for a while and I think I have a solution for my use case. Posting it here as I have this thread bookmarked... ๐Ÿ™‚
For various reasons, I want to be able to play audio around the house (like "Front door has been left open", "Garage unlocked" etc.) and so having some form of cheap remote speaker hanging off a media server I can control from the home automation system would be perfect.
...

ScaredyCat,

@NAB I have a VS1053 which streams well but there's only a headphone socket on it, so not good for announcements etc.

Are there already elegant solutions for distributing Let's Encrypt certificates to multiple hosts?

Of course, you can have each host request certificates individually, but then you run into ACME API limits at Let's Encrypt relatively quickly, depending on the number of hosts and simultaneous accesses.

I do not want to have to fiddle around.

#letsencrypt #server #selfhosting #infosec #tls #certificates #hosting #acme

ScaredyCat,

@thomas Circling back to this one. Stick haproxy in front of everything, have it deal with all the certificates and requests. Route ssl traffic to internal machines via haproxy - you can use a 'valid' but expired cert on the hosts and get haproxy to not do the validation on those old certs (or copy the certs from haproxy to each box if you really want)
