Rexios,

Posting raw ChatGPT output is the lowest effort content possible

Rexios,

But why. No one wants to read that shit and if they did they could put it in ChatGPT themselves.

Rexios,

Isn’t 4k 360hz equivalent to 1080p 1440hz? I wouldn’t expect 1000hz at 4k any time soon but 1080p in competitive FPS is easy

Rexios,

I disabled sticker suggestions immediately when they introduced that garbage feature

Rexios,

I sleep with my AirPods Pro in every night. I can’t live without them.

Rexios,

Did they claim the video was unedited Sora output? It doesn’t sound like they had to do all that much to the output to get what they wanted. There aren’t any AI tools right now that always output exactly what you want without any alterations, so of course they had to regenerateate clips many times and fix them up manually. They still ended up with a video that required no actual filming, and that’s impressive.

Rexios,

I’d rather have OpenAI stuff on my iPhone than fucking Google. I switched to iPhone to get away from Google.

Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....

Rexios,

I’m not sure these ads are even paid for by the developers of the apps that show up. It looks like this is an ad for the Microsoft Store in general, as Microsoft gets a percentage of any sales.

Rexios,

So what’s the difference between this and TSA pre check? You have to pay for that too so the money privilege argument makes no sense here.

Rexios,

The keys don’t have to be explicitly visible to exist

Rexios,

I have premium and SponsorBlock. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Rexios,

I use uYouEnhanced on iOS. Also the actual SponsorBlock extension on Safari.

Rexios,

And yet Apple approved the app in the first place. Have some consistent policy enforcement ffs.

The puby tool can now link dependencies twice as fast as melos with zero set up (pub.dev)

I posted about this package before and just got made fun of for the name, but this is a useful update for developers that work on large mono-repos on a daily basis. The puby link command used to require pubspec.lock files to be checked into version control in order to know which dependencies to grab, which most open source...

Regarding sublinks and feeling concerned about what is going on with it (lemmy.world)

Right now, I’m feeling concerned and wondering what is going on in regards to Sublinks here, since I have created a community for discussion on koalas about a week ago on here and have started and been doing work on it recently. But now I’m hearing about Sublinks and feeling concerned if I created it on the wrong instance or...

Rexios,

I’m trying my hardest to not assume it’s the classic “Java engineers are scared of other languages” meme

It literally is. The main maintainer didn’t want to learn Rust.

Rexios,

Yes because it fragments development of an already not well supported platform

Rexios,

For something I use constantly every day $10 is nothing

Rexios,

Seriously if you’re using Firebase already how the hell do you mess up auth? Firebase offers a free auth solution that’s pretty much a prerequisite to using any of the other services.

Rexios,

GitHub copilot does not suck. It’s just not magic. I’m never going back to writing boilerplate and heavily patterned code myself thank you very much.

Online bank One Finance removed my account's password in favor of _only_ phone/email OTP and a 4 digit pin

How is this legal? This has to be the most insecure login method I’ve ever seen. They removed the password from my account without consent and have no way to go back to requiring a password. Literally all an attacker has to do it gain control of either my phone/email and brute force a 4 digit pin. I’m going to have to change...

Rexios,

Well technically there is no password… but it’s not what passwordless auth is supposed to mean

Rexios,

I would argue that a phone number barely counts as “something you have” because of how easy it is for attackers to gain access if they really want it. It’s more like “something your cellphone company has and lets you use”. I would rather have email 2FA over SMS because that account actually has a strong password and real 2FA on it. The truly terrible part is you can’t disable either auth option so any attacker has two attack vectors.

Rexios,

Dashlane’s app experience across platforms was hit and miss for me. 1Password has been much better.
