My life likely turned out as well as it has so far because my parents fled Fremont, California, due to the terrible public schools following the passage of Prop 13—well, in fact, before the passage of Prop 13 the schools were pretty terrible. But they were going to be far, far worse afterwards. Fremont changed a lot since welived there!
