LaF0rge, to hardware
@LaF0rge@chaos.social avatar

Watched the excellent technical talk on USB4 (and related topics) by @MacLemon at #GPN22 https://media.ccc.de/v/gpn22-359-usb-wie-funktioniert-das-eigentlich-certified-usb4-version-2-0- Great speaker, good balance of technical and entertainment. I hope somebody will contribute english subtitles eventually. #usb #hardware #making

@LaF0rge @Bubu @c3voc @c3subtitles Oh, thanks. I‘ll look into that for our hearing impaired community.

@LaF0rge Also, I’ve given pretty much the same talk in English at #BalcCon2k23

There are only minor differences since Thunderbolt 5 wasn’t yet public and it lacks the live demo I‘ve squeezed in for #GPN22

Danke!

@IceCubesApp An immediate problem that becomes obvious from watching the video: The list selector covers up the text input which prevents people from typing ahead.
For accessibility reasons, especially screen reader users, it‘s recommended to use CamelCase with hastags. Most people sadly don’t do that. Autocomplete will likely autocomplete to bad hashtags that don’t use CamelCase either.

Looking forward to the finished implementation that encourages to improve accessibility!

Looking for hints on how to properly setup the awall firewall on #AlpineLinux via #ansible. I'm aware of community.general.awall but that's only suitable for enabling/disabling existing policy/filter files.

So far my search-engine foo seems to be too weak to bring up anything substantially helpful. Hints are welcome!

@falk_ You understood the assignment. Have you done anything like that? Any hints on how to efficiently do this via ansible?

@falk_ No need to write sample code, thanks. This isn’t StackOverflow/ServerFault after all. :-)

I was just guessing that I cannot be the only one who wants to automate setup with . But my search keywords were unsuitable so far. That’s why I decided to ask around.

Testing the new #ÖBB #Nightjet #USB charging ports. They are used in any type of sleeper cabin, even the mini “coffin” cabins which are actually pretty comfortable.

Facts:

  • Port Type A
  • USB Battery Charging specification 1.2
  • 2.5W minimum up to 15Watts
  • Should charge any Phone/PowerBank directly
  • May keep Type-C laptops from draining their battery
  • Works with USB A to Type-C cables as well as A to any B plug.
  • No USB Power Delivery support
  • no data or USB host capability

Either way this one requires some wiggle room.

MacLemon,
@MacLemon@chaos.social avatar

It compiles!

But I cannot upload it because doesn’t seem to support this specific type/version/variant of ESP32.
Also the print on this board probably does not match the actual hardware.

I hate microcontrollers, especially when they‘re fake-fakes and not even genuine fakes.
And how can I find out what chip this actually is and how to get it into programming mode?

@davemark@mastodon.social avatar

EVERY single USB-C cable should have the USB type and bandwidth printed on the cable.

Like this one (see pic).

I'd also vote for some sort of "raised dot" standard for visually impaired folks.

MacLemon,
@MacLemon@chaos.social avatar

@Vorsos @davemark Did you know, there are actually labels for plugs and ports defined in the USB Type-C Cable and Connector standard released by the USB Implemented Forum.

The one in the picture is not one of them, it‘s also not really helpful. So it’s either a very old cable or a non-certified, meaning not-reasonably tested, cheap cable which will not necessarily actually deliver what they wrote on that plug.

@MacLemon@chaos.social avatar
