Over a hundred protesters gathered on Valencia Street between 18th and 19th streets on Wednesday afternoon amid Vice President Kamala Harris' appearance for the Biden Victory Fund fundraiser at the Chapel, a live music venue located on the block. SFPD: Suspect identified in racist harassment, threats of Black dogwalker

Investigators with the San Francisco Police Department confirmed Thursday night that they have identified a suspect in the hate crimes committed against Terry Williams, the Black dog walker who lived with his parents in a duplex in Alamo Square. That home has been inhabitable since a fire broke out on May 21. It’s unclear if police believe the suspect is also a suspect in the fire and the San Francisco Fire Department has yet to conclude that arson was involved in the fire.

Sources: Anchor Brewing to be purchased by Chobani’s Hamdi Ulukaya

Mission Local has learned that Hamdi Ulukaya, the 51-year-old billionaire founder and CEO of Chobani yogurt, will be the new buyer of Anchor brewing. Anchor, founded in San Francisco in 1896 and largely viewed as the progenitor of the American craft beer movement, was shuttered in July by its former owner, Sapporo Breweries. Ulukaya’s pending purchase of the brewery was yesterday disclosed to officials at San Francisco City Hall.

SF’s first police surveillance cameras are coming to the Mission

The San Francisco Police Department has selected the Mission District for the launch of its first two surveillance cameras in the city, after voters approved Proposition E to expand some police powers in March. The cameras will both be on Mission Street, at 19th Street and 24th Street, locations with criminal activity that the police department believes could improve from surveillance.

Alcatraz ferry workers go on strike, but service continues

On Saturday morning, workers for the sole provider of ferries to Alcatraz Island went on a four hour strike to contest what they allege to be unfair labor practices. “The cat’s out of the bag,” said Evan McLaughlin, an organizer with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, which represents some 90 Alcatraz ferry workers. At 8:30 a.m., some 50 workers and supporters began to rally at the ferry’s boarding terminal at Pier 33.

Longtime Mission resident Gerald Gleeson is dead but not forgotten
