Unlearning what we were taught during 9/11 takes more than 23 years, apparently. Muslims are gentle people.

JapanProf,
@JapanProf@mastodon.social avatar

@LALegault There are gentle Christians, Hindus, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhists and there are horrible Christians, Hingis, Jewish, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. Generally, fanatic fundamentalists are evil no matter what their religion is and we know that there are lots of Christian, Jewish and Hindu versions of Talibans out there.

Is Israel the only liberal democracy in the Middle East? Or is it a special violent kind of “ liberal democracy” like the US that has always acted as it were above the law? Europeans should think hard whether this is the route they want to follow. It will mean Europe led by far-right leaders and the whole of Europe will end up becoming like Hungary or much worse. #icc #warcrimes

Watching Israel horrifically kill 45 people in a nothing-but-tents "safe zone" refugee camp and then say "well, there were these Hamas guys" and the US response is "Israel said there were some Hamas guys" is just breaking me today. This was a flat out war crime. There is a principal in international law that requires the least minimal action to achieve an objective. Dropping a giant bomb to kill a soldier while killing or injuring hundreds is not justified under international law.

JapanProf,
@JapanProf@mastodon.social avatar

@Infoseepage The US has done the same thing in so many parts of the world. Two possibilities. One, by defending Israel, it's probably defending its past actions. Two, the US policy makers really believe that people with European blood are the only valuable lives.

Why is Biden risking American democracy in support of a far-right foreign government that includes ministers whom the State of Israel considered dangerous and a minister who takes part in an alliance of European far-right parties—known for their antisemitism and racism?

Hamas should stop fighting back. Why launch a counter-attack from Rafah? It only prolongs the war, helps the far right groups in Israel and leads to more deaths and injuries of innocent people. #gaza

"Upwards 80000 people held a demo yesterday evening in Tel Aviv, at these demos regularly held every Saturday against the government and for the hostages' freedom, and one of the speakers was a mother whose son sits in Gaza as hostage and she said 'Matan, when you come home I will tell you that our government has abandoned you', then she turned to Netanyahu and said 'while YOUR son is encouraging mutiny, my son is hostage in Gaza' and what she was referring to then was a video which Netanyahu's son Yair shared on Friday where a masked soldier, saying he's a reservist in Gaza, threatened mutiny if Israel gives order to leave Gaza before Hamas has been crushed."

Gender, race, ethnicity and expertise are not irrelevant factors. It helps that the president is male, white, Jewish and a legal scholar of free speech.

One woman was killed and 5 other civilians were injured in Turkey's latest bombardment of Manbij.

Manbij is an Arab-majority area where many of those forcibly displaced to there as part of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and fellow proto-Fascists remain, now part of the self-liberated autonomous North and East Syria most widely known as Rojava, for which reason Erdoğan wants to continue the Armenian Genocide there.
There are similar attacks against Manbij almost every day for many years, almost exclusively directly targeting the civilian populace.

Manbij was self-liberated by primarily its own Manbij Military Council (MMC), which is one of the many organizations in the Syrian Democratic Forces, alongside the more widely known YPG and others.
Manbij being majority Arab with large Armenian, Syriac/Assyrian components was the reason why Rojava decided to officially change its name to "Autonomous North and East Syria", to reflect the desired core value and existing diversity by no longer having a Kurdish language word being the shared area's name when the Rojava Revolution had expanded through the Women's Revolution to areas no longer majority Kurdish populated.

@b9AcE we are probably heading for another record hot summer.
I worry about worsening food insecurity due to climate change and wars—in the Middle East and Africa. Meanwhile, the far-right parties in Europe are challenging Europe’s Green Deal. The second Trump administration will ensure that any attempt to contain further temperature increase will be tossed out of the window.
