I've been working on a #VRM #vtuber #avatar in #blender for the past week or so, to familiarize myself with the process. It's gone very well so far. Should be done in a few days. Once I am finished, I will be open for #Commissions.

I want to eventually do #VRChat style avatars as well perhaps, but I decided to start with VTuber style first.

3d Turntable video of Hawkwinter's WIP VTuber avatar of a Cactite (the cute cactus monsters from Final Fantasy XII). Made and rendered in Blender 3d.

Hawkwinter,

@Battle_Masker
Thanks! (It's a 3d model [of a cartoony cactus person] that will go in between my webcam and OBS, so that when I screenshare myself working on stuff, in the corner, instead of seeing my face, whoever is watching will see this guy moving along and talking and blinking and whatever instead of my boring human face).

Are there any good data aggregator apps or sites that show you local stats and outbreaks of civid, or contagious diseases in general?

Juicyfranck, to random

So, I'm just going to be sure I have this straight.

Back in 2019-2020, when #covid19 first burst onto the scene, nobody had any idea what we were dealing with. Out of an abundance of caution people were urged to stay at home, and keep away from other people.

In the almost-four years since then, we have learned exactly what we are dealing with - a disease never dealt with before on this level, that attacks and destroys multiple systems of the body, leaves many people disabled/bedridden, or with any of a huge number of chronic conditions.

It attacks the heart and brains of everyone infected (to varying degrees), and confers no long lasting immunity against future infections (which tend to get worse each time).

But with all that knowledge, we've now dropped any semblance of protection, and actively discourage masking, isolation and cleaning the air.

... Do I have this right?

Hawkwinter,

@Juicyfranck

We had a bit of an idea because SARS.

We had very little caution, until hospitals started overflowing with patients they couldnt treat dying in the hallways.

I suspect thats the minimum bar for people to take a disease seriously. Now that people arent immediately dying in the hospitals so much that the hospitals are overflowing with patients, they dont have to care.

And lots of people are content pretending

    Peer-reviewed autistic. Been unable to get access to testing for 8-9 years but it fits, and autistic friends and family who work with autistic people all agree, and so did RAADS-R.

    Call me autistic or an autist. "Person with" makes it sound like a 'disability' rather than 'being different in a world designed to beat you down for being different'. I can do stuff. I'm just different. Its a disability in the context of a world designed to screw you if you dont fit in a narrow box, but in a different context I can thrive.

    "Person with autism" also sounds like a condescending euphemism, and I'm not embarassed about it and dont need a euphemism.

    But I don't generally think of myself as "Identifying" as a group, and a lot of the descriptive tags people broadcast these days I'm more inclined to keep to myself unless theyre relevant. I dont want to be reduced in people's minds to a mere collection of tags.

    Giving Fairphone shit because while trying to build a long-term viable, sustainable and socially and economically fairer device they also think about the people in the real fucking world who are supposed to use them and offer them the software most of them rely on (like Google Apps) is more toxic purism than I can stand.

    People who are willing to suffer in their life by using something different, something slightly incompatible to what the rest of the world uses already do install roms and run whatever on their machines.

    Getting real actual people to buy a phone that's not built to be thrown away in a year of two, that highlights the values of sustainability is a huge win.

    And making the medicine ("your phone might not be as fancy as your peers' phones") taste sweeter ("for 8 years you have access to all the applications you need for your life to function within a digital society") is just a smart move.

    It does have the benefit of being a 'vegetarian' meat though. I try to avoid any situation where I'm funding the deaths of other mammals.

    This pharma-protein never had a brain, and I won't be culpable for any deaths by buying it.

    There are environmental effects to cows and pigs as food too.

    But yes. It wont come from independent farmers, and will definitely impact their jobs, forcing some of them to transition to farming something else.

    PWA with BirdUI. I use the PWA a lot, but I also use tusky for when I want to browse other instances and for this instance when I want to schedule posts.

    I think I use the desktop BirdUI the most, but it does feel like that textbox is sometimes frustratingly small, and Scheduled Posts on desktop would be nice.

    I really like this earth-integrated dome house design. I'd like it even better if it wasnt ferrocrete, but still. Very cool design for a home buried in a hill. Maybe add some Rotproof insulation between the structure and the foot or two of dirt (rockwool or hempcrete perhaps), maybe use stabilized earth + stabilized mud brick for the structure

    Aesthetically I'd prefer more of a Bag-End vibe than this white-plaster hippie vibe, but thats just home decor choice.

    With everything alternating burning or flooding or polar vortex-ing these days thanks to the Climate Emergency, a buried house in an artificial hill, above the water table, sounds like a pretty good way to go. I saw this years ago and tgen lost it, and today it randomly showed up again in my youtube home page.

    I sometimes forget that the far right is an anti enlightenment movement.

    Perhaps it's my decades of being submerged in the ivory tower of the university or maybe it's just a love of logic and enlightenment principals. I don't know.

    But I'm realizing what I find persuasive--evidence that's based on reason--not only fails to persuade the anti-enlightenment crowd, but actually incenses them. They hate reason the way vampires hate sunlight.

    "Tech experts are starting to doubt that ChatGPT and A.I. ‘hallucinations’ will ever go away: ‘This isn’t fixable’"

    whoa no shit sherlock it's a statistical model that composes answers that are statistically probable, not factual. it's almost like all it does is put a bunch of words that look like an answer next to each other and has zero grasp of what a fact even is conceptually

    Hawkwinter,

    @eniko
    It's also good, if you're writing, and you're stuck on what you want to do next, and feed it a scenario and ask it for point form lists of ideas for what you might use next.

    You probably won't stick to any of them as-is, but you know, some of them will prove inspirational, and then you flesh out the idea.

    It's pretty good as a tool to bounce brainstorming ideas off of, when there's no concerns about factuality to worry about. It's a lot like having a friend on the phone that you tell them what you're thinking of and they give you some ideas for stuff you can work in.

    ChatGPT is useful for some stuff. Summarizing a few paragraphs (it gets confused if you ask it to summarize a larger document). Brainstorming tool (short situations, not anything big or complex). Translation (though DeepL does it better).

    If you try to use it for anything more than that, it's not so good.

    I've been bouncing writing ideas off of it a bit. A lot of its suggestions have been bad, but some of them are reworkable, and some of them are inspirational.

    (And an idea cannot be copyrighted, only the actual implementation)
