I'll be monitoring the import of my PeerTube transfer to a new instance since Diode.zone is asking people to find new ones. @DavBot was kind enough to allow me to transfer to his PeerTube instance. So I started doing that yesterday. I've only got one channel moved so far. I'll hit you all up with the url once it's all moved over.

So that's my day. Fun!

I'm going to try to expand the list of #peertube instances I follow from my server. I've noticed the servers I'm currently federating with tend to lean towards being highly technical. It's not that this is a bad thing since that also reflects my personal interests, but a little variety doesn't hurt.

Yee, the costs of hosting are likely taxing their admin base in many ways, iirc they archive 15tb of backblaze data last I checked. I know the average joe signs up for 6 bucks a TB per month.
It's more reason we need to diversify the fedi by finding niche hosts and curating networks otherwise admins become Atlas. but we're not, and at some point the heavens get too heavy if not enough aid is given, financially, or technical supports like mods and sub admins

So the account export feature packs up your content and account and creates a nice little archive to dl and upload to the new instance.

Ok.

So where does that file live when the user's content is on object storage and exceeds the server's local disk space?

The docs don't bring that up. The way I see it the export feature could brick a server.

Sad to read that #DiodeZone needs to scale back its operations. I haven't found another #PeerTube server that has a similar blend of interesting focus, full feature set, and robust moderation and network curation.

The safer thing, and what should have been implemented in the export is the account data only and that import triggers a much more gentle channel sync to bring over vids in batches rather than squash a servers resources or brick it's disk.

There is one issue with their import/export

VPS: Let's say 50gb available storage
Peertube: object storage enabled
Account: 200+GB of video data doing an export

The export file is stored locally, so what happens when the exporting or importing server cannot hold that behemoth file on their disk to process?

Violence happens lol.

Fuck Godaddy, I am trying to transfer a client's domain from Godaddy to Cloudflare and it kept failing and for some reason now it renewed for another year, but says it won't be allowed to transfer until July 22? WTF!? I just unlocked it and transferred it. One of two domains failed.

Godaddy is such shit

GoDaddy will probably say the lock is out of their hands, and from their front line support or deeper, they probably cannot unlock it after 60 days.

Via ICANN transfer policy:
3.7.5 The transfer was requested within 60 days of the creation date as shown in the registry Whois record for the domain name.

Renewal counts to that creation. But...

If you already paid CloudFlare for the transfer they shouldn't have a prob either refunding or have the transfer on ice to try again if you can't get GoDaddy to unlock the dom.
