I know that Misskey/Glitch-soc reactions become likes on Mastodon servers. Anyone familiar with Misskey/Firefish can tell me what happens to a mastodon star when it federates? Does it becomes a generic :iine: reaction?
Due to spam bot attacks, sign ups at our Mastodon server only will require approval to prevent bad actors from potentially creating accounts and abusing our resources.
This restriction will be lifted on December 24th.
The Sharkey server (sakurajima.social) will remain open registration as this is not affected.
Note, anyone can create invites to bypass this requirement. If you want to move to this server, DM @chikorita157 for an invite.
@mia Care to comment on the fediblock going around for emmaverse and void.rehab? Resource abuse like that is pretty bad etiquette and as the admin of both instances, without an adequate explanation, lots of folks will be inclined to block both
@neatchee@robustjumprope@chikorita157 Yeah essentially the way I'm thinking about it is that if you are curious about testing something like this you don't do it by abusing other peoples resources. It's not an issue for me and won't affect my instance at all but I don't want this person federated with me in the event they end up doing something worse. Weird that someone so seemingly popular decided to enact this on other fedi instances.
@waffles@tommertron for me r2 has been amazing so far, I know a lot of peeps on here don’t vibe with cloud flare but r2 object storage is extremely cheap!
@Whiskeyomega@waffles@tommertron Ah I haven't tried Wasabi, I went with CF due to me already using it and it was dead simple to set up and add a domain to the bucket and then yeah it's using the CDN on top of that caching most of the media content. Also, you could use Wasabi and still run through CF to get this benefit.

@shellsharks None of these fit what a reply guy is, at least for people who are online actively, in my terms a "reply guy" is someone who replies fast to new posts online in order to farm engagement and is not gender specific. Maybe this is because I hang out in less politically active communities that tend to be less toxic 🤷.

I am working on migrating books.infosec.exchange - it'll likely be down for a few hours while I sort it out. Apologies. Like pixelfed, it's not going well, but unlikey pixelfed, bookwyrm is native docker. A big part of my challenge, I think, it moving from a bare metal install of these apps to the container version - likely much easier if starting fresh.
Is https://firefish.social usually so slow? Was looking to see how things changed since I last heard about it and man that instance is SUPER slow to load everything, is this an instance issue or a firefish issue?
@maegul Ah, yeah I was looking to mess around with some other federated software, I might see how Sharkey is seeing that is also uses the Mastodon API which is a must if you want to use any good mobile apps lol.
Did anyone try https://easypanel.io/ for Mastodon? seems pretty nice for managing an instance using Docker. It's an older version in the Template so you would have to update after but took 2 seconds to setup and everything can be changed in the UI and you can add services easily in the UI
