I wonder, are dubs licensed differently compared to the original Japanese cast on Anime shows? Like I have found a few shows now on HIDIVE that have English dubs and the same show are on Crunchy Roll but with no dubs, or is Crunchy Roll just dropping the ball here?
I do not understand how I have almost 8 gb of status data in my database for gardenstate.social. in the last 7 days it grew 8k? at 8k a week my server would have to run for 973 weeks to get to 8 gb.
I often run the cli script that removes unreferenced statuses. I feel like this should be much smaller!
Thinking about moving this instance over to Mastodon Glitch Edition so I can increase the character limit to 3k and so I can get over to the new Mastodon UI :pepe_LFG:
Alright I suspended the remote account @pkmnframes from esper.lol. I guess the account just federated with my instance and holy hell 61k total posts and ALL of them include media? I bet this account alone is taking up a couple percent of mastodon.socials resources lmao. Also, the bot uses the #anime hashtag in every single post so it’s just spamming the hashtag up. Mastodon really needs a Sharkey like setting to not cache remote content and a per user media limit like Sharkey to.
I am very annoyed with Sony. I can't log in to my PlayStation account because ALL of their sign-in forms were changed to only allow 32 characters. I default to 64 character random passwords, which they previously allowed, so now I can't enter my password anymore
WTF Sony? You decreased security everywhere and didn't even notify people with passwords that are no longer compliant? The least you could do is force a reset when I try to log in next.
EDIT: Obviously the solution is just change my password but jfc is this dumb
@neatchee yeah I guess so, I generated so many different passwords trying to get it to work and ended up having to use a 11 character password but idk what the limit is, I got tired of trying 😂
@neatchee yeah it was incredibly annoying, ended up with like 20 password reset emails. Also auto fill with password managers seems to be bugged too so watch out for that.
Why is hcaptcha an env variable... This seriously can't be done through the UI? Honestly, the more and more I use my Misskey-based instance the more and more I realize how far behind Mastodon is. I mean yeah I like Mastodon for the most part but why do they make everything so damn annoying? Rip to anyone who uses @mastohost due to the Mastodon devs having all the good server configuration set to the env file.
@chikorita157 Oh well they haven't hit any of my Mastodon instances but had a good bit of work today and they were spamming my Sharkey instance so I have just been suspending the accounts, suspending the origin instance, and then deleting the post lol. I only didn't suspend the origin instance if it was one I knew or one that the instance knew for a while. All of them were new to me, well except 2 but one was a French instance and the other was a German one so I just suspended them.
I think ES keeps crashing due to the insane amount of posts the instance has stored and needs more ram but I don't wanna upgrade the server again lol. I should have never stayed on that huge relay for so long :deku_aaaa:. Maybe just make a script that checks if ES is on or not and if it's failed then restart it lol.
@chikorita157 Yeah iv got to set that up on my end, this is one of the things I really like about Misskey and its forks is that I don't have to worry about this, would be cool if Mastodon could implement the same feature eventually.
Doing a prune of remote profile avatars and headers for old accounts and it says it will take 4 hours :deku_aaaa:. I haven't done this once since the instance was originally setup over 6 months ago lol but I think I will have to set up a job to automate this like @mastohost does so I can keep media usage down. Overall this will only save 50-60 cents a month on R2 costs but hey why not 🤷
@chikorita157 It's actually the same as yours now I believe lol, a 2CPU 4RAM cloud. Though I do keep ES on the same box and I just set the JVM options to 1gb and that seems to be fine. I have thought of putting everything in one box but honestly, I like having everything separated.
Moving to this takes the cost from around $20 per month to around $9 per month with the backup snapshots enabled to.
