Next #Gemini project: make a gemini version of the #KingJamesBible (already been done), but then make a version filtered through my kjvfilter (https://codeberg.org/rldane/scripts/src/branch/main/kjvfilter) sed script to update some of the language. It's a VERY alpha-quality script and is not super-well vetted, but that's half the fun.

I'll call it #kjv

@amin, an awesome project for you whenever you might get bored with clew would be a project gutenberg interface for gemini. That would ROCK.

My search engine skills are failing me tonight. Does anybody know of a tool that will convert an HTML document into markdown? Linux obviously and CLI would be nice. I want to use it for a script.

@mort why would the amount of found CVEs say anything about how secure or insecure something is?

Just because tool X has no CVEs does not mean it's safe. Like the XZ issue we had before.

Also having lots of CVEs doesnt mean its insecure. There are also LOT of moving components, like required kernel modules, configs, programs, libraries and alike.

So, alltogether judging something by using CVEs is a pretty useless indicator imo.

In an episode of Stargate: SG-1, a stargate mishap sends Carter and O'Neill to a frozen cave, and Carter leaves to take a look around and comes back and is like "oh no, it's a completely frozen planet!", but plot twist, they're actually in Antarctica.

Anyway, greetings from the arboreal woodland region of Tatooine. It's quite pleasant. Lots of moisture to go around for everyone. You just never saw it depicted in the movie.

The best way how to save your data in the Internet (or how people have learned to prounce it wrongly, the cloud) is not to have data in it.

Stop putting your life into it. There is barely any benefit for you but a lot of bad consequences in the future.

Don't trust me. Trust the hackers, governments and companies. Your data will be more valuable than what they give you in return for it.

How do we stop #AI to help on malicious requests? Like "Search me a loophole in the current law that allows me to receive money without paying taxes?". Is this even illegal?

How would we prevent others (like admins) from doing so if this is blocked from users? Can we even do this?

The way I see it, AI is a two edged sword where both sides mean cutting yourself.

While all the big companies are crunching on thousands of CPUs and GPUs to help you give you an AI assistant that can give you a chart I am writing shell scripts using gnuplot to feed my ledger data into.

I have my NAS mounted via sshfs. And my phone. And my tablet. And my VPS. etc.

I do it because I dont feel like we need multiple solutions for the same type of problem (remote access + data transfer).

Also allows me to lock file access behind a keyfile, which other protocols (like samba) dont support.

@underlap yep, it's sad but with a lot of people to follow you'll not be able to follow anyone anymore.

People posting more frequently take the spot. Which is sad, as often the less frequently posters have great content as well.

I am always careful when following new people. Not because I dont like them, but because it will take more of my focus and time.

Today I took the time to take a look at my followers and found some really interesting personalities in there!

It's quite sad to have such a limited bubble only. There are so many great minds on Fosstodon, yet my time and resources are so limited.

Sometimes I wish I could sit down and drink a coffee or tea with each and every one of you and talk about your ideas and opinions, even (or especially) if they are not like mine.

The Internet is dying.

Websites with libraries and media pulled from 30+ domains seem to be no exception anymore.

Who does this? Who has the guts to call himself a web developer or Website Administrator and then go crazy with includes?

At very least bundle it yourself. I cant look at Websites nowadays. Doesnt help that I know 1. how to make it better and 2. why it happens. :-/

I can feel that in 4-5 years there will be some companies going bankrupt because they chose to incooperate #AI into their products.

I feel like #StackExchange has a high chance to fail, the only quality content you have is user submitted and they are turning from that.

There are also things like #Google search which are already declining in quality day-by-day.

I've seen banks replace their FAQ and help search with an AI assistant. Why? This makes me mad.

@RL_Dane I have something similiar.

When trying to use NoVNC the resistFingerprinting setting messes up the locale, so its not useable anymore.

I had to use NoVNC as a VPS change I did locked me out.
