My wife grew up in Rural Nova Scotia, 4 miles off the country highway, there were two homes. She grew up in one. Many times the school bus could not get in the road, and they would have to walk out to where it could reach. Groceries were delivered once a month, staples that you didn't grow or raise yourself.
Saying "Money was tight" fools you to think that there was money?
They baked their own bread, picked fruit & berries, bottled and then preserved vegetables/food for winter.
I was already in the Navy, and making money, when I met her.
I am old school, I have never split a bill with a woman, no matter what the reason to dine together.
My (then girlfriend) would never pick something large or expensive from a menu, I'd feel odd having steak and she wanted steamed bean sprouts?
I would only make Peanut Butter sandwiches with Store Bought Raspberry jam. That didn't go over well. First, it was probably the most expensive jam on the shelf, dark and full of seeds that you'd see through the little square bottle. Oh, how I miss you, 'Smuckers'.
I was thinking about writing this short thread, as I made my PB&J after coffee this morning. I had a choice of cherry, blueberry, raspberry, and grape Jam, and Quince Jelly.
I'm outside working, talking about my days, that begin before daylight and end after dark. But what of my wife? What does she do, when I appear to be doing heavy work outside?
She's the chief cook and bottle washer, Molly Maid and Cat Herder.
I plant the seeds, and till the soil, and she weeds the gardens. She's been harvesting, and preserving as soon as she brings in vegetables.
All day, steaming mason jars, sometimes pausing to send me for additional lids.
Those who already know, skip to page 5 now? 😉 My wife is disabled. Her spine is worse than your co-workers! 😆 She can't turn her torso, for example. Can't cast a fishing rod, or paddle a canoe. Her balance is off, she walks with considerable pain and a cane. And she's too stubborn to reduce her workload.
In between pickling, bottling and preserving, she makes fresh bread (we have sliced bread but who doesn't pick homemade first?) she does laundry.
Sometimes she makes me a batch of chocolate cookies, when I get one of those cravings.
Now, I still make breakfast most often, I'm the exceptional early riser, and trying to be quiet for her to rest, headphones on, I might wash up dishes, make my coffee, and setup hers for when she wakes. In the city, I make lunch most often, but here, I can't spare the daylight hours, indoors, so my wife makes all lunch and suppers too. Pretty much everything, inside the home.
Once, I bought her an electric mobility scooter. Kept it so long, the batteries went dead, but she would not use it. She stubbornly walked to the remote community mailboxes, while her disability allows her home delivery, and disabled parking .
She wouldn't use the eBike either, but lost balance and fell off a bike before so we take the 🎵 Bicycle built for two 🎵 now..
You'll find her on knee pads weeding the whole acre, I just plant and prune. She weeds everything
So, not just because she does, like, EVERYTHING, that I think I'm a lucky man: she's silently put $100's of dollars worth of groceries away for winter, cooked, cleaned, washed and weeded, she's a pretty good woman. A keeper, as the fishermen say
So before you think I'm the only one working, or only see a fraction of what is going on, it's my wife with the glue bottle keeping all this together
#GoodMorning! Every time something malfunctions at home it’s always my #wife using it when it happens…🤡 iPhone, that has been perfectly working for 3 years goes bad within a week. Same MacBook. Car always misbehaves when she’s using it. I don’t know… Bad luck, clumsiness… Her keys are always bent, she drops things all the time, doesn’t bother if oil light goes on in the car, would drive of with a flat tire… Now it’s fucking induction cooktop not turning on…😩 #LifeWithWife
Ok… I’ve ordered a new #AppleTV (latest model, 128G) and my #wife instantly started asking weird questions, like why not the cheaper model…🤡 Because it’s missing Ethernet port and half of the storage and you save only €25…😂 She also torpedoed me with some clearance sales links with older models not advertised as previous gen and being just slightly cheaper…🙈 What a chore… I kinda wish I got back to not tell her anything, just silently upgrade…🤡 #LifeWithWife#Apple
