Totally hooked on Professor @aquigley #keynote at #EverythingOpen today - it's all about #interfaces and #HCI - and about #sensors - and how they can be used for secondary purposes to those originally designed - and at the end of the day we are all #human - and this limits the attention we have for input.

Super interesting!

Text is limited in some ways. Therefore i think this AI start-up is interesting. More focus on sensors and the real physical world seems like a good idea. "The worlds biggest problems are physical not digital"

Schools are using surveillance tech to catch students vaping
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/schools-surveillance-tech-catch-students-vaping-snaring-harsh-106698771

When Iglesias was caught vaping... she didn’t realize how much could be taken from her. Suddenly, the rest of her high school experience was threatened: being student council president, debate team captain, walking at graduation. Even her college scholarships were at risk. She was sent to the district’s alternative school for 30 days and told she could have faced criminal charges.

Google's Pixel 8 phone has a body temperature sensor. 🤔 (in this case, requires you to hold the phone up to your forehead). Not as intrusive as the connected watches which know when you are sleeping, and know when you are awake, and know if you've been bad or good.... And your sex life (or lack of one, LOL).

📣 Reaching out to the good folks of Mastodon. I'm on the look for a software developer and a data scientist/data processing role to fill, in my #startup Rubens Technologies. We develop #sensors and #MachineLearning analytics for fruit quality assessment before and after harvest.

At this stage they are on a causal/contracting basis, but we are growing.

Preferably based in #Australia, but happy to chat with anyone who's interested, anywhere in the world!

More info and address to send me a note at this page 👇

I guess the "best" way to get cheap #sensors for water-stuff might be buying crappy webcams from ebay and writing some code…

Want to know how much rain fell? Webcam+cup+permanent-marker-scale (empty once per day!)

Want to know if your rain barrel is full? LED+Webcam

If you want to know about the sad state of #IoT, just look at how many DIFFERENT things you can measure.

Yeah, temperature/humidity are nice and cheap, but there's hundreds things missing.

It's still all toys. Nothing usefull!

Hi everyone, in this video I connected a digital temperature sensor (DS18B20) to Commodore 64 and did some non-scientific measurements :) To make this work, I implemented a 1-wire protocol in the assembly. Enjoy :)
