Here is a blog post I wrote a few years ago about my NeoVim setup — should be more like what people who were in my talk are expecting https://grumpy-learning.com/blog/2022/12/13/current-neovim-setup/

Until you defund that department, and then it all went to hell.

Lesson for potential and current speakers — my talk today didn’t go over as well as I wanted. The audience had different expectations and feedback was helpful. This happens to every speaker at one time or another.

I wanted to talk about approaching tools in general, audience wanted me to run through more interactive examples of NeoVim and PHP. Sometimes you take the L. #phptek #phptek24

Thanks to an amazing session by @derickr at #phptek, I have now successfully built my first PHP extension. It doesn't do anything ... but the fact that it works, tests pass, and it extends the functionality of the language is a win I'll take.

Not understanding how to start with extensions has held me back from several ideas I've had percolating since ... at least 2018. It feels so good to be productive again :-)

👋 For those who are interested in writing PHP extensions, and the tutorial I did yesterday at , I also have these as a video online on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjbKYHzoKM0&list=PLg9Kjjye-m1hW4z0J-546qaFpysjlo27x

🎥 There will be more episodes coming soon™.

TIL that GROUP BY GROUPING SETS exists. Also ROLLUP, which is even more terse and powerful. Thanks, @auroraeosrose!

This exists in Postgres as of 9.5, while ROLLUP exists in a janky fashion in MySQL.

TIL LAG() and LEAD() on dates in windowing functions.

I think I saw this presentation from @auroraeosrose back in 2017 at PNWPHP but I'm catching a lot of new stuff this time.

compliance isn't fully automatable.

For example, substituting comparable navigation modes if the normal ones aren't necessarily accessible, or using multiple modes to differentiate controls (e.g. size or shape in addition to color)

The SQL standard got built out originally by, among others, Oracle, Sybase, IBM, and SAP.

Microsoft wasn't on the list because they hadn't bought Sybase yet, and didn't have a database product of their own.

From my #dto talk at #phptek, here's the longform written version: https://kait.dev/posts/your-frontend-is-not-your-backend-using-data-transfer-objects-to-keep-your-code-focused. Don't worry, I kept in the CSS mocking
