Thread: A while ago after I finished installing the region mod on my #PCEngine Duo-RX the screen became garbled similar to this. #retrogaming#RetroComputing
Fixed the trace with a tiny piece of VeroWire.
I couldn't find the original RAM so ordered some 32x8 CMOS RAM from Reichelt.de and soldered that on. #retrogaming#PCEngine
Great, now everything was working except the region mod.😤
It plays Japanese HuCards and any CDs but not US #Turbografx cards (white screen)
Suspected the RAM was too fast with 45ns access time, so desoldered the RAM again. #retrogaming#PCEngine
Turns out I really goofed up the mod.
I should have read the "Attention..." comment on the mod creator's website and grounded pin 29 on the Hu6280 chip. RTFM often gives you an advantage.😜
All good now, Japanese and US cards both work. #retrogaming#PCEngine
New memory chips for the #NEC#PCEngine Duo-RX have arrived.
I couldn't find the original brand but these are CMOS ram with the same memory organisation and speed, so in theory they should do the trick. #retrogaming#RetroComputing
Not quite sure how many they have in stock or how long stock will last, but I wouldn't hold off if you're interested.
I made that mistake once with the big JRPG book and I had to wait for a reprint.
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Red Alert”. This is a 1989 top down run & gun game very similar to Mercs, developed by Laser Soft & published by Telenet on CD-ROM2 format. This was released in the US on the #TurboGrafx16 as “Last Alert”. #Retrogaming#NEC#PCEngine
Raiden was one of the hardest games to get in the PC Engine Volume list, in the end I was quite lucky to find it for a good price. I’ve tested it, but not really given it a good play #RetroGaming#PCEngine
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Gate of Thunder”. This is a 1992 horizontal shoot-em-up on Super CD-ROM2 format, developed by Red Entertainment & published by HudsonSoft. It’s very similar to the Thunderforce games & many ex-Technosoft employees were involved. #Retrogaming#PCEngine
On #HuCardHuesday here’s “Avenger”. This is a 1990 vertically scrolling helicopter shoot-em-up developed by Telenet and published by Laser Soft on CD-ROM2 format. For a CD based game, this is a little basic, but it’s actually not a bad game. #Retrogaming#NEC#PCEngine
Newest addition to the collection is this Japanese #NEC#PCFX console with 4 games.
It is the successor to the popular #PCEngine but was a commercial failure.
It has a limited games library of 62 games with one(!) shmup. #retrogaming#turbografx
