@metabrainz with the introduction of artist pages on #ListenBrainz, will there be a field in #MusicBrainz to enter the artist biography given that not all artists are notable enough to have a #Wikipedia entry?
@okwithmydecay We have an artist annotation field in #musicbrainz where that kind of free-text data can be stored - but we don’t currently pull it into the ListenBrainz entities. I imagine information in there will be relevant for LB users more often than not, but that might need some discussion.
Hundreds of millions of data points entered by people selflessly spending their time and energy to help others, for 23 years now. Amazing. Thank you. Onwards, and upwards!
So behind with a lot of stuff because I've been busy with adding new artists, information, tracking official #SNS accounts, and fixing things over at #MusicBrainz.
MusicBrainz is a #PublicDomain database for anything related to #music. Artists, labels, tracks, albums, groups/bands, stage names, even instruments, and roles.
The database of MusicBrainz is actually used by a lot of other websites, one good example is the music tracker #LastFM and MusicBrainz sister project #ListenBrainz.
If you love to help the community, go check it out!
Or, if you've been building databases, but the info is behind non-open, non-sharing licenses, why not give your time and effort to a Public Domain database? Help the community, and tell your employer to use their database instead!
Sometimes when I have #Spotify on shuffle, a track comes up that doesn't exist in #MusicBrainz, and sometimes the track belongs to an album that usually only exists in Spotify. To make matters stranger, the artist will have no biography and a Google search yields very little - who are these musicians that appear quite secretive? For example https://open.spotify.com/artist/22q8B4k3lOj40ziqSkDDY5
@zepfanman one possibility is @metabrainz could add a field to #MusicBrainz entities to indicate if it is AI generated but at the moment we can't even confirm who or what created the recording, due to a lack of information
@okwithmydecay@zepfanman#MusicBrainz’ hand hasn’t been forced yet, but there was quite an interesting discussion last year on how to approach this - do we credit the AI/LLM as the artist? The instrument? If the prompter is the artist, what if it’s an AI prompt/self-seeded?
Is there something like #MusicBrainz, but for video? A database of #VHS, #DVD, #BluRay etc. releases with technical information like resolution, codecs, audio & subtitle languages, but also listing playtime, bonus features, and errors (e.g. "broken VFX in the scene at 12:34, fixed by subsequent re-release a year later") and so on?
Glad to announce that in addition to a more clean and clear user interface with some explanation of how it works, #MastoBrainz now uses Mastodon's OAuth, so there's no need to manually generate your authentication token!
I'm really into music, so much so I've been a #musicbrainz editor for several years now. currently most into #futurebass, #breakcore, #hyperpop, and #synthpop, but I'll listen to most anything. also getting back into the #brony community (mostly the music, lol). deep in the #hololive rabbit hole (Mumei best girl), but there's other #vtuber I've come across and enjoyed~ also #memes are pretty cool…
