Deutsche Bahn, as part of ONxpress, is taking over operations for GO trains starting in 2025.
"This will include operating and maintaining GO Trains, train service planning, introducing new operational technology solutions and providing maintenance services for new assets like electrification and signaling."
I continue to yearn for the day I can take the Go train from Union to Stouffville for lunch and back that evening, instead of only the opposite direction.
Toronto transit advocate, guru, and lie-detector Steve Munro has created an amazing gift for the transit advocacy community: an index to every topic covered in TTC board agendas and reports, going back to 2020. I’m sure partly to make his own research easier, but the net effect is a huge win for every transit advocate.
@Alon This describes well all the public private partnership issues that we’ve seen in #Toronto under #Metrolinx's contracting model.
Conservative politicians have sold the fantasy that if we pay a little more upfront, the private contractors will take on all the risk of cost overruns. All that happens instead is both parties end up in court and so far, the public has had to pay extra anyways.
There is NOTHING in this video I disagree with. I urge the current PM and Premiers of Quebec & Ontario to do this fast and win amazing new support in Ottawa and Montreal.
@paige absolutely nails not only a solid plan but tells the story in an accessible & convincing way. I’ll be sending this to MPs & MPPs tonight.
Imagine the CPC did this? They’d suddenly turn rock-solid-red Montreal & Ottawa seats purple!
I just got the latest newsletter from Metrolinx wrt updates. Unfortunately, the content for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension was missing (only the title was there).
Transparency.....?
Today, at the public session of the Metrolinx Board of Directors meeting, CEO Phil Verster shared details around the status and progress of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project:
“We will announce an opening date for the Eglinton Crosstown three months before opening day. We are not there yet. We are making sure everything is built right and operates correctly and safely.”
Yes she criticized Ford about his handling of the #greenbelt and in return got removed from the #Metrolinx board. But to be fair, removing anyone from the Metrolinx board is likely to improve its performance....
Very cool internship opportunity at #Metrolinx: Rob MacIsaac Fellowship for undergrad and grad students to develop a transit-related passion project as part of their academic program (Jan-April), then a paid internship at Metrolinx (May-August).
Breaking news: Metrolinx intends to open Eglinton Crosstown as underground walking tunnels. Says CEO “let’s face it, we haven’t the foggiest when we will have trains running, like, it could be years and winter is coming.”
Commuters will be able to access the tunnels with their PrestoCards. Standard fares and two hour transfer will apply.
So it looks like MPP Caroline Mulroney, #Ontario's failed attorney general & now failed Transportation Minister has become President of the Treasury Board (aka keeper of the purse strings)
Despite the #DougFord govt's #greenbeltscandal, she's managed to snag a KC patronage & sidestep her problematic transport file. Lucky, or what?!
MPP Sarkiria takes over transport & began his tenure by assuring disgraced MPP Clark that "we will finish the important work you started." #onpoli#metrolinx
The “greenbelt scandal” for the Progressive Conservatives is akin to the “gas plant scandal” for the Liberals. Let’s hope it results in the same affect in getting them out of office in 2026 (or hopefully sooner). The question is, can Ontario remember that long? #onpoli
@hamishb@andrewporter “a whole different category” indeed.
And if Doug Ford is “comfortable” with that much corruption in his Greenbelt scandal, imagine the possible corruption in healthcare privatization, the megaspa deal, Ontario's public education, judicial & policing appointments...#Metrolinx..
