I recently jumpstarted a new sidehobby: A newsletter/blog exploring Bellingham via transit. BhamByBus is still very much a work in progress and I'm experimenting with content approaches and need to apply a custom URL, but it's taking shape on the Ghost platform.
Hey #ottawa OC Transpo announced this morning that you can now pay for #publictransit with an Interac Debit Card. This is in addition to being able to pay with a credit card or mobile pay on any bus or LRT station #ontario#onpoli
A local group wants to make it easier for people needing #paratransit to easily get on board services across #Ontario. Paratransit is for people who cannot easily access #PublicTransit due to their age or #disability.
The goal is to create a #ProvinceWide eligibility process so that qualified people can use specialized public transit services anywhere in Ontario. This can be very important for those who need to travel for treatment or appointments to different cities.
I just listened to an #instagram video about the stress of booking a flight from Barcelona to Paris… the Ryanair airport is very far from Barcelona and absolutely not worth the price of tickets BUT… you can take a direct train from Barcelona to Paris that takes 6 wonderful hours for $126 fucking Canadian dollars 😭😭😭😭 my god I miss living over there sometimes. The overnight from Barcelona to Milan was a fav train I took a few times #travel#publictransit#ottawa
Was 1/2 way across Richmond Rd when the 57 bus comes eastbound. Nooooo. I waved at the bus and dude stopped and blocked a bunch of traffic to let me jump on 😂 Good #publictransit drivers out there in the wild #ottawa
I'm not sure I even count as a photographer in the Pacific Northwest if I haven't posted any pictures from a ferry. Here's a few from a recent back-and-forth across Puget Sound for an assignment on an exceptionally clear day a couple weeks back.
My view out the window riding the city bus today. Bus wrap #advertising makes travel miserable. Advertising wrap over bus windows says to bus riders that they dont deserve a view of their city or a comfortable ride.

I'd bet that a lot of that inefficiency was built in as a precondition of its passage. That's how it works in red states. Let blue islands implement "woke" policies, but only in ways that kneecap them from the beginning, so you can campaign against their "failure" in a few years.
We’re going to #montreal in August to watch the Red Bull Cliff Diving event, as we have a friend whose daughter has been competing (and winning) for 3ish years in the sport. It’s also for my 40th birthday 👀 Anyway the part I’m most excited about is taking the train 😂 #ottawa#viarail#publictransit
I try to find and follow urban design, electrification, active transit experts who aren’t white dudes mostly on instagram, and I found one in Australia who I really liked until their litmus “test” for electric cars was “does a wine bottle fit in the front cup holders” 🙃🙃 Like of all the metrics to test this is the one you focus on… because you think it’s funny? People sometimes #publictransit#climatechange#EV
I don't want to undermine the importance of having public transit be safe, but media needs to stop covering "violence on the Metro" as if pubtrans is more deadly than car travel.
Sure, you're not the one driving the Metro so you don't feel as in control. But I suspect the numbers would show a lot more violence per day in car travel than pubtrans.
Let's work for violence prevention on pubtrans, but also stop stoking middle class fears of pubtrans. #Transportation#PublicTransit
This is not cheering for the pay workers get at Chinese EV manufacturing companies or the supply chains etc but the fact that North American car companies have made zero moves to make simple, low cost EVs is pathetic. “Flood the market” blah blah blah. There’s no free market anyway just protectionism, government subsidies and the gatekeeping to keep EVs at $50,000 a piece. Say nothing of the #climatechange song and dance about getting folks into EVs #canada#cdnpoli#ev
I guess this is also necessary for the demonization of China by conservatives and the oil and gas sector essential to sell the bit that what #canada does on #climatechange doesn’t matter globally. I’m not cheering for China or their business practices or whatever but the EV market in this country is a fucking joke. My only hope is that perpetual high EV prices force the #publictransit conversation #cdnpoli
I am pleasantly surprised that @kde Itinerary handles Indian railway tickets very well. I kinda knew it would, but I'm still surprised at how well it does.
@xtaran wonders about campaigns designed to boost cycling:
Q4. Given campaigns like #Frostpendeln, #30DaysOfBiking (this is happening right now!) or #Bike2Work: Which type of campaign motivates you most? Are you more looking for "as often as possible" (e.g. at least once per day, outbrave any weather) or more at the distance ("see how "much you cycle get within some period")? Maybe regular group rides similar to a #CriticalMass? Or something completely different?
The bus is to me what the bike is to you. For me it wasn't the time (which is about the same) but the stress of driving in morning traffic, looking for parking, etc. I used to walk into work with my heart already racing. Now I get a soothing morning walk on the way to the bus stop. #publictransit#carbrain
I have to take a short weekend trip to Montana and after considering different transit options, I decided to rent a car and drive; it's a bit of a road trip, but I found great rental deals and was excited to rent an electric car to try it out as we're considering buying one.
lol, Montana is huge and has hardly any charging stations on the route 🙃 According to one of the EV charging maps there are single chargers in towns about 150 miles apart, which seems dicey to me?
We gotta invest in charging stations. Every town with a gas station should have EV chargers. Every grocery store should have EV chargers. "It's just not practical to drive an EV" is 100% an infrastructure problem.
Yes, I know rail would be better in a lot of cases, but:
The US is MASSIVE and dispersed; connecting every rural town will never happen
Pickup trucks are stupid in cities, but in rural areas they're king
Why is it that some people get so agitated when you suggest that some other people can happily live without their own car?
I mean, sure, some places are extremely car-centric! But not all places where humans live are extremely car-centric, and some of the places that are extremely car-centric could be changed to offer more options to people who want to live without their own cars!

Cycling isn't legitimate transportation...apparently (sh.itjust.works)
