In #Canada, vet #consolidation has gone largely unnoticed amid a vet shortage and stories of vet burnout.

2023 report from the Ontario #Veterinary #Medical Association #OMVA said #CorporateInterests contol 20% of #VeterinaryHospitals in Canada, and estimates those chains employ about 40% of the nation's vets.

My new med for RA finally arrived by delivery courier. This is after 6 weeks of talking to the drug manufacturer, 2 speciality pharmacists, doing paperwork, intake phone calls, and finally scheduling a delivery.

The med is covered under a provincial ‘compassionate care’ program because it costs $6,200 USD / month out of pocket.

I share because it’s important to know what we go through. We don’t choose to be sick. We don’t want this. We just want to be well. 💜

Many #Canadians supported #EugenicPolicies in the early 20th century, including some #medical professionals, #politicians & #feminists. #Alberta & #BritishColumbia passed #SexualSterilizationActs, not repealed til 1970s. #Eugenics have continued into the 21st century, including #CoercedSterilization of #IndigenousWomen & what some have termed the #NewEugenics#GeneticEditing & the screening of fetuses for #disabilities.

DNFB for medicine is discharged not final billed and is used a lot at hospitals as it represents the AR not yet billable. It is important to keep this to a minimum of days for efficiency and ability to get paid. It affects cashflow, so the lower the better. I wrote a quick diddy that sifted 147mllion rows in 2 seconds to give me my average dnfb by AR snapshot month

Very exhausting but so are most important #justice fights against #government.
I just hope it will help more #POC & #disabled families in future from suffering unnecessary #traumas from #cops & coward #paramedics scared of telling cops to leave a #medical #crisis call when no cops are needed & only making things worse by letting #abusive cops stay around.

Does #tories latest bad idea include a #cure for #longcovid or any of a thousand other debilitating conditions?
Of course not.
Luckily I don't have to claim #benefits as I 'languish' at home with #trigeminalneuralgia after 7 yrs training to get my #job. But just like those who have to claim, I'd jump at the chance to have my #health & #working life back.
More than any other #Government, this one is so deluded they all think they're #medical experts.

Our medical centre has just put up some of its fees ($63 a visit) and introduced "Note that appointments running over time will be charged at $20 per 5 minutes, including for community services card holders. A standard appointment only allows 10 minutes of consultation and 5 minutes for your clinician to make notes. Only one item can be addressed safely in a standard consultation." (NZ$)

What sort of charges do you experience where ever you are in the world?

A fun story from my past week… I’m trying to share the positives.

I had a surgical procedure Monday and had 4 nurses involved during various steps. My 2 surgical nurses knew what POTS was and treated me so well - they gave me extra fluids. :)

My last nurse in recovery… her 16 year old daughter has . What did I do? Of course I talked to her and answered questions and was an advocate… on my surgical bed… because that’s what I do. 💜☺️

We exchanged emails 🤘🏻

No need to fear

>2 decades ago, the shocking results of a major women’s study challenged the safety of menopause medication, & overnight, millions of & their abandoned the drugs….
Now, a long-term follow-up of the Initiative (WHI)…found that for many younger menopausal women—under 60—the benefits…outweigh the risks for short-term treatment of symptoms, incl’g hot flashes & night sweats.

@Nonilex@masto.ai avatar

The results disrupted #medical care for millions of #women …, many of whom had been advised by doctors that the drugs not only relieved symptoms, but also offered long-term protection against heart attacks, which was widely believed…. The sudden about-face…meant that scores of baby boomer & GenX women were forced to navigate the vexing symptoms of #menopause —incl’g hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia & mood disturbances—w/o the benefit of highly effective #HormoneTreatments.

TW for (+) #medical talk.

I’ve been through a hell of a week. I won’t share any further details atm, but I had to go get bloodwork in the community today.

The phlebotomist saw my arms and immediately realized I’d been through it. Multiple IVs and other pokes. He was so kind, gentle, and patient with me. Quickly, he did a very gentle poke… and I thanked him for using a butterfly needle. He replied, “I can see you’ve been through so much, of course!”

That kindness nearly brought me to tears.

Going to be a bit quiet here for a few days … I’ve got a surgical procedure in the morning and will have lots of doctor follow up appts to manage.

Good vibes are always appreciated. Imma come back from this stronger, no doubt! I never give up hope 💙💙
