A century ago, this photo was taken in Haubstadt, #Indiana. This town had both a #train station and #electric#interurban service, with a population of less than 700.
Now it has over 1,600 people, but has no service of any kind. The station and several of the buildings in this photo are now gone or empty.
Even major cities with populations in the hundreds of thousands sometimes lack basic #rail service. It's painful how much we've lost.
> Daimler Truck North America said Friday it will spend $40 million to build a new electric vehicle engineering facility at its Swan Island headquarters, choosing Portland over two other sites it had considered. The company said it will also build a new $3 million Portland training facility.
These insidious little pests eat the protective earths from electrical installations, plugs and devices. Copper and plastic sheathing both disappear without a trace, as if they were never there.
These dangerous insects are very common around here. Sometimes even the shops selling electrical installation materials are infected and replacement plugs on shelves are entirely missing their PE pins.
My #house started doing a madness and randomly, the #electric kept tripping and I was like WTF? So I kept trying to figure out what was happening and by process of elimination, worked out its something to do with the downstairs #sockets.
Canadian media is so full of Fossil Fuel and domestic Car Manufacturer (I include Toyota in this as they have many plants in USA/Canada) apologists they have convinced themselves that because Tesla's sales are flagging (likely because of their idiot CEO turning people off the whole brand of overly expensive, poorly built cars) and domestic makers are pulling back production then the whole EV industry has "trouble ahead”.
Meanwhile, Hyundai America had its best March ever including EV sales doubling.
Volvo Cars reported an all-time high today for global sales during a single month and says its “new fully electric small SUV, the EX30, contributed to the sales growth.” Björn Annwall, Volvo Cars’ chief commercial officer & deputy CEO, says that “in the months ahead, we will focus on ramping up sales of our EX30.” BEVs made up 23% of all cars sold during March.
Did a gas/electric fixed tarrif with #OctopusEnergy in February but I read an article today from #MoneySavingExpert which says check your tarrif as the price cap may not go as low as predicted.
So I checked mine and the March fixed tariff for existing customers is now £70 per year cheaper (based on my consumption) than the February fixed. No exit fees so got it swapped over!

EV folks, I live in #Philly. My car just catastrophically failed today. There is an affordable Nissan Leaf I want but the charging stations are kind of a pain to get to and I live in an apartment complex. I think I can run an extension cord out to charge the car, however its not certain. There are some electric chargers at work but there is no guarantee that they will be available. There appears to be adapters for Tesla chargers that can do fast charge but I can't tell if they only convert to level 2 or not.
We are trying to weigh if its worth the annoyance or not. what do you think?
“It’s not green, it’s greed. Global warming is a serious problem and we cannot continue burning #fossilfuels, but destroying mountains for lithium is just as bad as destroying mountains for coal. You can’t blow up a mountain and call it green.”
#Barroso is the only region in #Portugal – and one of only eight in Europe – recognised by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System of outstanding landscapes that combine agricultural biodiversity, resilient ecosystems and a valuable cultural heritage.
The electrification of private automobility is neither effective nor equitable.
Prioritising this strategy not only maintains existing inequities but also increases social injustice and delays the implementation of more effective interventions.
Apple unplugs self-driving electric car project, reports say (www.bbc.com)
The firm never acknowledged the project publicly but had recruited about two thousands workers.
