Grandad

The rather thoughtful, perhaps wistful, young man in the photograph is my paternal grandfather, Edwin. He gazes benignly at the camera, his slightly wavy hair neatly trimmed and parted, clean shaven, a slight smile reminiscent of the Mona Lisa. He wears a jacket, and we can make out a waistcoat plus what appears to be a knitted vee-neck jumper. There’s a handkerchief in the jacket breast pocket, and a neck tie with fancy geometric pattern is neatly knotted over…

Somewhere I have photos I took about 20 years ago of medals awarded to my granddad.

Of course I can’t locate them anywhere. Why do you ask?

Either I deleted them, or they’ve been archived on an external drive I’ve forgotten about.

Assuming my parents still have them, I may have to go and take some new pictures.

Today has been a disaster and I've not even gone to the dentist yet.

Lots of things went wrong with the computer when I was in the office, and through a series of tedious but unpleasant events that I won't try to describe, I've lost some really important data. Specifically: the cardiac arrest data that I've been working on and now need to redo in only two days.

And what's more, I've lost most of the formulae and mechanisms that I've developed to make that arrest work a whole lot easier.

And my internet is on the blink.

What I can extract will be scrapped. We don’t need all the wiring any more, but some of it is definitely attached and won't come out without a fight. I’m going to do my best, and finish the Ethernet cable run to the broadband router properly while I'm at it.

Best Beloved has just had a visit from a district nurse to do diabetic review and checkup. Lots of good things should come from that visit, as she was very thorough and mildly concerned that some test had been missed in the past few months.

I’ve also heard from my tame grease monkey about fixing the electric door windows in my jalopy. A rather eye-watering cost for a full mechanism, so he’s keen to get the car in and take it apart to see what’s actually wrong with it.

So my 12 year old kid loves to death: machines, tracks, landscapes, everything. Unfortunately, this is a hobby dominated by grumpy old men, some of whom don't react too cool towards a rainbow family. Are there any familys out there with ? , Germany, wherever? I am thinking exchange of photos or small films, maybe sending stuff to and fro, meetings in Germany at some point. German, English works. Neurodivergent kids/parents welcome.

I’m not a clubby kind of modeller, but I do belong to a couple of online forums. One of them is chiefly about model railways, and very much about the doing as much as the chatting. The adventure this afternoon went a little awry.

Essentially, it was to deliver Best Beloved to the local ophthalmology hospital for a regular checkup. Easy. We’ve managed to get to the car twice in the past week.

An unscheduled sit-down occurred right outside the front door. Recovering from that, we couldn’t find ANYWHERE to park at the hospital.

We came home. The hospital will be rescheduling. I’m letting the passenger transport folk deal with Best Beloved next time.

Ack.

He grazed a knee, but other than a knock to his confidence and a few aches, he’s okay.

We got help from our neighbour. Lifting Best Beloved back on to his feet is much easier with two!
