ValentinesNet is still going strong, so all being well we’ll keep it alive til we run out of space or release a breaking change.
We are moving ahead with updates on the fly, and hope to put it to the test on the current testnet. Basically what will happen is that node IDs and data will be seamlessly retained even as the sn_node software is updated.
@jake4480 most of the things I make only have a handful of users as well, mostly employees of small business who are too small to have their own devs.
It's honestly a nice field to work in, as it really feels I can make a difference and they're grateful for the things I make for them. Most of the time lol
In whichever area of #deltachat related developments you look, you will find different people and communities -- even if there are several individuals who appear in multiple contexts as key contributors or drivers. There is no single person who gets to decide about everything even if we do have lead roles for particular aspects. Our experimental community approaches respect Convays Law: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway%27s_law -- meaning: our #decentralization tech will be only as good as our social practises
We have a suspicion that the high-mem nodes are those that subscribed to gossip for royalties. This testnet is aiming to probe that hypothesis by removing gossip royalties!
The aim here is largely to see if we have avoided such high memory nodes.
Since we integrated with ActivityPub at the end of last year, Minds has added 32,000+ new users to the network via federation, from 2,200+ different ActivityPub networks.
With our new Networks product (https://minds.com/about/networks), anyone can launch their own network in a matter of minutes. These networks can federate with Minds and the rest of ActivityPub too. Your data, your community, your rules.
Yesterday we launched our latest testnet to analyse the effect of encryption on node memory performance. This builds on the previous QuicNet, which saw a move from TCP to QUIC, and drew a rapturous response.
QUIC is evidently the future. Nevertheless, this being cutting-edge engineering, for every step forward the law says there has to be half a step back ...
Bluesky is revolutionizing social media with its decentralized approach (it says). Built upon the AT Protocol, it's scaling rapidly with over 3 million users. The architecture and design aim for decentralization, user agency, and simplicity. Plus, it's open for research and innovation in content moderation.
Reflecting on the past month, I've decided to make some changes. Farewell to #meta, #google, #X, and even #Microsoft. Transitioning to services like #protonmail and embracing the #fediverse has been surprisingly smooth for me. And it could be for others, friends, and families online. All we need is a spark of conversation, introducing folks to spaces they might not have explored yet.
@jake4480 yeah it can be daunting but some of us are just more comfortable online I guess. I have friends who don’t care about any of this stuff and getting through to them can be rough. But I find more people are open to options, especially if you appeal to their privacy and online safety, than not.
@rohad that's true. I was on Twitter for like 10 years or something, so many cool people. But Musk got it and the day he changed the icon to dogecoin I was out. Stupid scammy crap. He's such a huckster. Racist too. Guy's gross and I couldn't stay on that thing. Oh well. So nice here! Walled crap sucks anyway. All the ADS it was like every other tweet.
