Reflecting on the past month, I've decided to make some changes. Farewell to #meta, #google, #X, and even #Microsoft. Transitioning to services like #protonmail and embracing the #fediverse has been surprisingly smooth for me. And it could be for others, friends, and families online. All we need is a spark of conversation, introducing folks to spaces they might not have explored yet.
@rohad bingo. One thing I've noticed about here, if you tell people a specific instance to check out, they'll be much more likely to try than just "go choose an instance" - kinda overwhelming for a lot of people I guess. I found it pretty easy though? Setting it up. Finding people took a bit. But after over a year here talking to people, yeah, it's great.
@jake4480 yeah it can be daunting but some of us are just more comfortable online I guess. I have friends who don’t care about any of this stuff and getting through to them can be rough. But I find more people are open to options, especially if you appeal to their privacy and online safety, than not.
@rohad that's true. I was on Twitter for like 10 years or something, so many cool people. But Musk got it and the day he changed the icon to dogecoin I was out. Stupid scammy crap. He's such a huckster. Racist too. Guy's gross and I couldn't stay on that thing. Oh well. So nice here! Walled crap sucks anyway. All the ADS it was like every other tweet.
