Ok so I think the IPFS is probably the most coolest and futuristic decentralized server project I have ever seen by far, huge game changer. The fact that you can host an entire HTML site free of charge is insanity to me. Think about the possibilities hosting your own indie musics, comics, arts, stories and games. It may not replace social media but it's great for creating personal website :BlobhajBlanketBlue:. #ipfs#decentralization#peertopeer#p2p#internetprotocol#technology

The concept is really cool, but give it a try, it's not terribly smooth unless you're using a high power machine on a really fast connection. Hope it develops into something amazing, but it's got some rough spots at the moment.

Also keep an eye out for #SafeNetwork which is coming together. Initially for perpetual data storage but websites will follow. Truly automous #p2p, so no gatekeepers, servers etc.
Uses content addressing like #IPFS but acts like one big server, so no need for you or any particular device to be online for your data to remain secure and accessible from anywhere.
I think 2024 is already a very exciting year for p2p networks. Can't wait for the apps.
@lutindiscret@mauve@dat_ecosystem@ninabreznik I'd love to try building a similar idea for Dat but don't know much about it. Is there a way to refer to a file by some immutable ID, like BitTorrent does?
At the end of it I feel like we had to run much faster just to stay in the same place.
Much like the rest of the space, funding for @openprivacy and @cwtch took a hit, and we have to continue to squeeze ever more out of the amazing support we do get.
When I look at where Cwtch is now compared to a few years ago I couldn't be prouder.
So much more to do, so many better worlds to build.
Ultimately the fight for privacy, security, and thus freedom of expression and association will be won't be won in a courtroom or a legislature.
It will be won my people making a choice that those values are worth actively protecting.
Every time someone localizes cwtch for a new language, or submits an anonymous bug report, or simply reaches out over ephemeral wires to say hi, I remember why we continue to do this work.
Wherever you are, whatever race you are running, I hope the next revolution around the massive inferno that provides life to our tiny rock is kind to you.
