Stark9837, to ubuntu

So, I've always been an #Ubuntu fan. However, for work I sometimes need to switch to #Windows for specific applications and also in the past #Linux gaming wasn't well supported, so my #Steam library takes quite a hit when I move to #linux

When I recently switch back from #Windows10 to #Linux, I decided to go with the good ol' #Ubuntu. Because it simply works and it is popular and I have many resources and support to help me. Say what you want, but many of the #Linux kinks and bugs have been worked out of #ubuntu

But damn. I was so fun to be back on an OS that I love, but I actually felt so limited by Ubuntu. I was struggling to figure out whether my GPU drivers are even working and the #SnapStore was unbelievably slow. To the point where I would run speed test and reboot my router, just to realized it just takes 2 minutes to load.

It has always been these small things in #Ubuntu that bothers me.

@amd

I started hearing about it from the #LinuxExprriment on #Youtube but didn't immediately make the switch. Only tried #PopOS about a week after installing #Ubuntu.

Currently I am loving my experience with it and played around a lot with the new windowing system last night . I really enjoyed it once I understood how it worked.

The display preview in cosmic-setting's wallpaper settings page will now show how the wallpaper will look like with the scaling mode selected. There's currently "Fit to Screen", "Stretch", and "Zoom".

It's Friday and my links roundup returns! Here's a few things I've been enjoying this week, including oral histories, ancient musical instruments, a charming slug—and more! ✨

iwastux,

@soller Good progress! I don't know whether it's too early to ask but how's the #accessibility features? I hope in the #COSMIC DE accessibility will be a priority :)

Kinda wish I could ask kwin to force window decorations on all windows, even on top of CSDs.

Because CSDs are hella fugly. They don't look like the platform I'm running ( ), and they have very poor active/inactive contrast.

Man, Mr. Thanos, I just need to borrow that blingy glove for like five whole minutes. I'd fix ALL the UIs. X-P~

(For shame, , for flerpin' shame. Ruin your own DE, don't make me regret using your apps on other DEs.)

Yeah, I think I've heard of it before, as well.

The great thing about tiling wms is that you really don't have to do something like that to keep things manageable.

Also, I think the new desktop is going to be pretty dang cool. If it's like the current (unrelated) COSMIC desktop, it'll have lots of Gnome-style aesthetics with i3-inspired utility. Flerpin' cool stuff.

As a macOS user, my #Linux journey began with trying to make my DE look & work like #macOS, but with the added features a Linux DE provides - first #GNOME, then #KDE, finally settling on #Cinnamon as my favorite.

Then @thelinuxEXP released his video about bad UX design where he trashed the concept of a menu to launch apps & demonstrated how GNOME’s approach is superior… 🤔

My (mostly) stock GNOME immersion begins now.

@ASP @thelinuxEXP @gnome @kde I may end up disagreeing as well, but I also want to remain open to new and different ways of doing things. I don’t use computers for work anymore, so Linux has become a hobby that allows me the flexibility to try different concepts. Who knows? I may hate it and go back to #Cinnamon.

I’m VERY excited to see what System76 does with #Cosmic. It looks great so far.

Will the #Cosmic desktop of @system76 be using #GTK, #QT or something else?

New technique using cosmic rays can pinpoint dates in history we once only knew vaguely like 'a thousand years ago' to amazing accuracy:

Quick question to the @pop_os_official team: Once #COSMIC becomes something else, entirely independent from @gnome, what would happen to the #PopShell window stacking feature that's available to other Gnome distros?

My laptop with @fedora has it and I love how it works.
