My wife and I have been discussing what it would look like to start an #IntentionalCommunity / #cohousing project here in the #SalishSea area (US side). Today I learned a new word: "nowtopia", a social construct that really exist in the present, while embedding some of the characteristics of a radically different, better society.
@alberto_cottica Don't sell your project short! 😁 #cohousing projects may be small, but I wouldn't say they are partial.
Beyond the housing and community practices they propose, they usually connect in a transformative way with so many aspects of life and society (energy, mobility, care, education, food, work, etc.) that I honestly think they are the ideal starting nodes for growing an interconnected and interdependent #nowtopia.

Have you considered using the property to explore living condition scenarios from "Decent living with minimum energy"? That's something I've frequently thought about since reading that paper (I just did a measurement now, to compare a 15 m² per capita benchmark.)
It could go hand-in-hand with a transfer to cooperative ownership, for people who could be interested in trying this.

The paradigm of “growth” underlies public and private pension provision: workers’ and employers’ contributions are invested in a way that grows the size of the pot so after several decades of work there is enough to fund retirement.
Is this still realistic? (It’s not moral in a world of limited resources)
Besides advocating for political representatives who pledge to work for #sustainability and #degrowth, can we band together in meaningful ways to fund alternatives to the conventional individual “defined contribution” / 401(k) pension plans?

My #introduction! I’m looking for a good home in the fediverse. Have been on social media of some sort since the MUDs and Usenet of the 90s, and a participant in intentional communities on and offline, including #cohousing. I am interested in science and education topics as well as some light computer geekery, sustainability and organic ag, reskilling, and parenting. Currently parenting teens in #westernmass with my husband.
