Happy birthday to #biochemist Marie Maynard Daly (1921-2003), 1st Black woman to earn a PhD in #chemistry in the US! She made important research contributions to our understanding of the biochemisty of the cell nucleus & cardiovascular issues & the chemistry of histones & protein synthesis. She established that "no bases other than adenine, guanine, thymine, and cytosine were present in appreciable amounts" in DNA - #womenInSTEM#BlackInSTEM#histstm#printmaking#linocut#histmed#HeartDisease
Happy birthday to Canadian medical researcher & #biochemist Maud Menten (1879-1960). Not only was she an author of Michaelis-Menten equation for #enzyme kinetics, she invented the azo-dye coupling for alkaline phosphatase, 1st example of enzyme #histochemistry, still used in imaging of tissues today & she also performed the first #electrophoretic separation of blood haemoglobin in 1944!
This #BlackHistoryMonth let’s celebrate trailblazing American #biochemist Marie Maynard Daly (1921-2003), 1st Black woman to earn a PhD in #chemistry in the US! Writer hive mind: I have a character (young man, mid 20s) whose means of expression is primarily physical. He needs a hobby besides pranks, rough housing and chasing around with his brothers (199 & 243 year old teenage boys. They're vampires. He's not.)
Art seems ideal but there's a reason to not use that if I can find something else.
He and his brothers have a band. Their philosophy of music does not involve practicing.
Need something that is just his. He's not telling me who he is yet.
If that's an "invitation" for a suggestion; maybe a #BioChemist...? Something completely unrelated to the "band" but also entirely "related" to his brothers' #Vampiric-disposition...
