It is about Vesta (symbol: ⚶) — an asteroid, one of the largest objects in the asteroid belt (average diameter 525 km).
Discovered on March 29, 1807 by the German astronomer Heinrich Olbers and named after Vesta, the goddess of home and hearth in Roman mythology.
For a terrestrial observer, Vesta is the brightest asteroid. Its brightness can reach 5.1 magnitude.☄️
"Overall, there is almost no ice over four years old remaining—it now comprises just 3 percent of the total ice cover. This is the same percentage as last year and contrasts starkly with the late 1980s when 30 to 35 percent of the Arctic Ocean’s ice was older than 4 years."
Come on, astronomers, other scientists, it’s your big chance ! Explain why a small (1 m) asteroid is not a meteor. Why it’s not a danger, exploding over a populated area (northern France). But another small asteroid devastated #Tunguska. How much bigger was it? Or #Chelyabinsk ? Don’t leave this to YouTube videos, tell us the whole story! We want to know. #Asteroid#AirBurst Educate us.
Starting today I will post a page of my "Good Night(sky) Stories" each #Moonday. It's a visual journey through our solar system and beyond, combining cute cartoons with scientific facts and trite humor. Basically the result of an artist and an astrophysicist distracting themselves during boring meetings.

#Astronomie#astrocomic#illustration#MastoArt
