Right this is freaking me out now and I just know I've something configured wrong here. After every #ArchLinux kernel update my system fails to boot.
I can get it back by booting to fallback and the typing sudo pacman -S linux and a reboot.
But why is this happening ?
I have a seperate /boot partition but I did notice it has an EFI folder too as well as a grub folder ?
Any clever folk out there able to help me resolve this issue please ?
Unfortunately, after some time using #FreeBSD it's time to move back to #ArchLinux.
The thing is – drivers, support, etc.
I now use KDE Plasma on Arch and being happy developing my OS.
And also, unfortunate, but I drop the idea of making a FreeBSD-based system.
It's just too much work for me as a solo developer (and enthusiast).
Maybe, in the future, it will happen, with a big team of developers, like "FreeBSD edition" or something.
So far the tax filing season is going "well" for me in #Taiwan. I downloaded their latest required plugin for smart card readers on #Linux from the official site at https://moica.nat.gov.tw/rac_plugin.html and it seems to be breaking excellently with a #Javascript error.
Looking at the other alternative, the Health Insurance Card has its own reader software for Linux https://cloudicweb.nhi.gov.tw/cloudic/system/SMC/mEventesting.htm that wants to run a shell script with a bunch of sudo (and loads of commented out code) in there... how dangerously do I want to live to run this script?
It includes automatically installing stuff on Debian or yum-using distros, of course nothing else exists.. So yeah, this would be broken on my #ArchLinux, probably.
As you can see from the README and the diff that I gave to you, xe took the portable version, stripped out all of the bits that were conditionally compiled for anything other than Linux, substituted in Linux shadow password and PAM libraries, and added in the file-based timestamp mechanism from sudo.
Worse: This is the official #ArchLinux flavour of #doas. The portable one that didn't go back to sudo under the covers is relegated to the AUR.
If I were to do a 1:1 image of my #archlinux laptop setup to an SSD installed in a desktop, would I in theory run into any major issues?
Major changes:
@thelinuxEXP@opensuse I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed with the #gnome desktop environment on my main machine a couple of days ago, due to some people recommending it to me on a post I made. It has been a pretty amazing experience so far, specially since I started out with #archlinux and was used to reinstall my system a few times a year. Even on my machine, that is supposed to run Windows, it has been working very well, battery life is a little better than Arch or other distros, and a few bugs it had with the likes of Manjaro and others are either absent or less of an headache. :meowaww:
@killyourfm@system76 Personally I'd go with the #ThinkPad . My current daily is a P14S AMD Ryzen 5 and I love it. Certainly lasts all day and everything works under #ArchLinux .
@pcanterino Woah, I managed to restore the system using the installation ISO, chrooting into it and reinstalling the linux package.
However, when I rebooted, it actually RESTORED the hibernation image and continued. But that wrote to the filesystem in ways it wasn't supposed to. I saw very scary error messages like "Data will be lost"
After quickly rebooting again, it dropped me into a recovery shell. Luckily, fsck was able to repair the filesystem. All good now. Phew. #Linux#ArchLinux
@pcanterino And just to be extra sure nothing else is broken, I'm reinstalling ALL packages right now. It's kinda cool #Pacman can do that. #ArchLinux#Linux
I'm Rob, a longtime #linux user (running #archlinux ATM, btw.), maker and sometimes blogger. I'm very much into #selfhosting and run most stuff on my local servers. I'm also a big #vim and @kde fan.
For my day job I'm a full time remote Embedded Software Engineer from my home
in Taranaki, NZ (I'm originally from the UK). Outside of tech stuff I enjoy vegetable #gardening and am learning #woodworking.
I'm happily married with two lovely, but also annoying children!
Yesterday I figured out why JOSM was not working on my machine.
For Java, there is a hardcoded list of window managers, and it refuses to draw the widgets if yours is not in the list. Therefore, under :dwm: , I have to lie about what my window manager is, and then I can use it.
In real life: I hang out with my school's student theatre club, the RIT Players. I like #improv, #cycling, #racquetball, #transit, and traveling. I love my family.
